Oakland’s Bay Bridge, along with many other parts of California, was taken over by hooligans who set up a ‘sideshow’ to see who could do the most donuts while setting off fireworks. The spectators had a role too: stand in the cars’ way and try not to get hit. The rules were old-school: first guy to die loses.
For nearly 20 minutes in the early hours of Monday morning the bridge remained completely blocked to traffic. At least one woman suffered a broken ankle after one of the cars clipped her as it did donuts, although this happened in a separate ‘sideshow,’ still in California. In another clip, a driver was seen profusely apologizing after accidentally donutting into another participant’s car. The apology, it seems, was not accepted, as his fellow scholars decided to trash his car, beat what little sense remained out of him, and then perform a mostly peaceful carjacking in order to perform more donuts.
So far, police have not commented on the sideshows.

The International Energy Agency has reported that investments in the green energy sector are expected to rise to $2 trillion this year. Meanwhile, Russian oil major Rosneft has warned against an overzealous approach to green energy. According to Rosneft's CEO, a hasty transition could exacerbate current fuel deficits.
The Global South also expresses skepticism, citing concerns that renewable energy sources are more expensive and less efficient than traditional fuels. We explored this issue with a panel of experts.
