Hamburg's traditional Roncalli Christmas market welcomed visitors on Monday divided into two areas: the one with retail stalls accessible for everybody and the food area, where only vaccinated people and those who recovered from COVID-19 could access.
After a year of forced cancellation due to the pandemic, the city's beloved market at the Rathausmarkt square returned with security checking people's COVID certificates and tests.
Germany is currently battling a fourth wave of the pandemic, with infections at an all-time high.
Translation:
SOT, Marine, Saleswoman (German): "Well like a weekly market, you have to see it like a weekly market, we would really like for 2G to apply for our stand, because then people could try our products. People may not now try samples [since the stall is accessible also for the unvaccinated]. That's the problem."

Before visiting Auschwitz, neither Maria nor Vida had ever been to a concentration camp. The two young women visited the site with a German interfaith group of Muslims, Christians and Jews to learn more about this dark chapter in Germany’s history.
Auschwitz, the largest of the Nazi concentration and extermination camps, has come to symbolize the horrors of the Holocaust. A group of young Germans of different faiths travel to visit the camp together. They share their thoughts and impressions, and also meet survivors of the Shoah. The trip's organizer says such excursions fulfill an important purpose, as not all schools in Germany cover the Nazi era in enough detail, and the trips also provide an opportunity to combat growing antisemitism and anti-Muslim sentiment in Germany. By the end, all the participants agree that every young German should visit a former concentration camp, at least once.

fter a mandatory COVID QR code system was introduced on public transport in Russia's Kazan on November 22, some residents started offering special taxi rides to those who do not have QR codes.
Anton Bortyakov joined the initiative, offering lifts to people for free. He tied a red ribbon to his car so that people can recognise it.
"Passengers can recognise us by this ribbon. They can flag down the car, and we will pick them up and take them to their destination for free," said admin of the group 'Give a lift to a friend in Kazan', Anton Bortyakov.
Bortyakov says he is not against the vaccination but considers QR codes measures to be 'illegal'.
Some other residents criticise such taxi initiatives, arguing that they won't help combat the spread of COVID.
One resident said: "It's bad. They infect those who are travelling with them [in a car]."
