Let's face it... we all have to start somewhere and if you've picked a career involving microphones that could mean an investment outright. You may not want to go full throttle and spend a lot of money on equipment because you're not certain it'll work out. Maybe you need to spend that money elsewhere like keeping the lights on.
You gotta do what you gotta do however when it comes to skimping on gear, is it possible to make cheap, low quality gear sound worthy enough to deliver? The short answer is NO, DON'T EVEN TRY IT! Your professional ear isn't developed yet and it's very difficult to fool a professional who listens to and expects high fidelity when you're working on a professional project especially if you're being paid.
If you know what to listen for and are working on a short project, your chances of pulling one over on a professional are higher. The longer you are recording on a mic, the greater your chances are of delivering inconsistent or unstable tracks. It's risky to even think about because if you're starting off a career, you don't want to risk your reputation before you even have one.
In this video I'm going to attempt to fool you, the viewer, into believing a $17 microphone is worthy enough stand with $400 microphones. I encourage honest participation so please use the comments section below to write your findings as you listen to this video.
Headphones strongly recommended for this video!
Remember, I'm not advocating for or recommending using less than great quality, pro audio gear but rather am conducting a test to see if a few minutes spent on processing is enough to make a short voiceover sound like it was recorded on a professional mic.
