In this video, I pull up the great looking black currant plants (hardwood cuttings) and transplant them to a living fence line that will ultimately replace an old cedar fence. Cultivation, plowing under, turning soil over, tillage, cultivation, rototiller, climate change, NASA a Year in the Life of Earth's CO2 In this video we cover some of the detrimental effects that tillage has on the soil food web, soil structure and function as well as its effect on climate change. I've included a video clip narrated by Bill Parkman from NASA’s Goddard space and flight Center. The video clip is a public domain clip that can be downloaded from their website. This video is fascinating in that it depicts seasonal variations of CO2. I specifically was very interested in noticing seasonal variations as they relate to photosynthesis. Being from the northeastern United States in the snow belt we are well aware of the decreased photosynthesis as it relates to the loss of leaves from all the deciduous trees and the ground being covered by snow. However I did not realize that an additional negative impact of tillage would result in a delayed onset of photosynthesis of the majority of farmland in the northern hemisphere.
