In this video, I discuss why I've made the decision to move the walnut trees out of the 1st food forest and into another part of the property where I can study their effects on other food forest plants and soil organisms.
Winter is coming soon, We've already had a couple of frosts and snow so it's time to get the fig trees ready for winter.

In this video, we examine the black locust trees, elderberry bushes, oak tree seedlings, black currant bushes, horseradish, and sage along a living fence line. We also planted many extra garden plants along the fence line for the wildlife. The living fence provides habitat and food for wildlife that encourages ecological diversity. As we continue the living fence line we will also fill voids with other companion plants to enrich the diversity while building guilds.

In this video, I begin to work again on our root cellar. There will be 4 zones within the root cellar. 3 zones for food storage designed to meet the needs of each type of produce. All three zones will be very cool and well ventilated. The largest zone will be very dry and cool. This will be the main storage for our canned goods and winter squash. Zone 2 will be 90-95 % humidity and will be the were root crops will be stored. The 3rd zone will also be very cool and moist and will be where we store apples. Each zone will be well ventilated with adequate air circulation and filtered air. The apple storage area will have a higher ventilation rate to reduce ethylene accumulation and ripening of the fruit.

Large pile composting mini-series Day 4 (7-21-2017)
In this video I continue a not-so-short miniseries taking you along with me as we compost a large pile of manure, from many species, hay, straw, produce, dirt and other debris. I transported the materials to our site 6 weeks ago. The material had gradually accumulated on the source farm over a 6 month period. Some of the material likely was piled and not turned and went anaerobic and some of the material manure, hay, and straw that was mixed with a LOT of DIRT when it was scraped up with a tractor.
The pile continues to decompose yet the temperature peaked at 128 degrees. I’m very please and surprised that there are so few weeds germinating on the pile.
To be continued…
Thank you for watching please like, subscribe and share our video. Have a great day!

In this video, Kevin continues work on the eastern garden plot getting the area where the cattle panel trellis was cleaned up and ready for bed prep. Hopefully, I will get the fencing figured out soon and get over to the west garden plot to remove the other cattle panel trellis down. I've used 4 pieces of heavy equipment to make the job easier on my body. Takeuchi TB290, Takeuchi TL12V2, Kubota B2601, and the Kubota Grand L6060. They all are fantastic!
