After your quest at the backstage wilderness of Floccesy Ranch, return to Aspertia City and enter the gym. Battle 2 students and you’ll battle Cheren. Cheren uses Normal type Pokémon. Patrat will use Detect to avoid attacks for one turn. After the battle, you’ll receive the Basic Badge and a TM83 (Work Up). Work Up raises the user’s Attack and Special Attack stats.

Call her on a Sunday afternoon and she will be at the Fighting Dojo in Saffron City. Alakazam will use Gravity to make moves more accurate for 5 turns and Focus Blast for a 10% chance of lowering the target’s Special Defense stat. Espeon will use Calm Mind to raise its special stats and Baton Pass to switch out while the stat changes remain in effect. Mr. Mime will use Reflect to reduce damage from physical attacks for 5 turns and Thunder for a 30% chance of paralyzing the target. The gym of Celadon City has a maze with small trees that require Cut to remove. After navigating the maze, you’ll take on the gym leader. Erika uses Grass type Pokémon. Jumpluff will use Leech Seed to slowly drain the HP of the target every turn and U-turn to switch out after causing damage. Tangela will use Sleep Powder to put the target to sleep and Ancientpower for a 10% chance of raising all of its stats. Victreebel will use Sunny Day to change the weather for 5 turns and Synthesis to restore its HP. Bellossom will use Solar Beam to deal big damage, which will not need to wait a turn when sunlight is in effect. After the battle, you’ll receive the Rainbow Badge and a TM19 (Giga Drain). Giga Drain restores the user’s HP by half the amount of damage the target took.

Wallace can only be battled in the Champions Tournament. His team is entirely Water type. Milotic holding a Rocky Helmet will use Scald to burn opponents and Icy Wind to slow opponents down. When low on HP, it will use Rest and the Marvel Scale ability will take effect to raise its Defense. Sharpedo will use Zen Headbutt to make targets flinch and Aqua Jet to strike first. Walrein will use Yawn to put opponents to sleep and Sheer Cold for a one-hit KO. Ludicolo will use Rain Dance to make its Swift Swim ability take effect and Giga Drain to steal HP from targets. Swampert will use Muddy Water to reduce the Accuracy stat of opponents. Starmie will use Signal Beam to confuse opponents. A move like Leaf Blade would be a decent move for this matchup.
