Does WannaCrypt Ransomware Infect Linux? Well, the WannaCrypt, or WannaCry ransomware is designed to infect Windows machines that still use the old SMBv1 protocol. This morning though, I saw posted on my Facebook feed an article that Claims that WannaCrypt can infect Linux computers that run WINE. Is it true? Check out the video to see. And, keep checking back for more Linux Security Reports.
The MongoDB ransomware problem is more widespread than first reported, but the good news is that the problem can be prevented by following proper MongoDB security practices when setting it up. It's also worth pointing out that MongoDB is a cross-platform service, so this problem can impact on Linux server security, Windows server security, MacOS server security, and Solaris server security. I thank you for watching the Linux Security Report. Please feel free to like and subscribe!

In some cases, you might not want for a network service to run at all times. By creating a systemd static file on your Linux server, you can have a network service only start whenever it detects an incoming connection request. Basically, it works by having a systemd socket file intercept the connection request for the service that you want to start dynamically.
For the demo in this video, installed the micro-httpd webserver on a Raspberry Pi that's running Ubuntu Server 18.04.

In this systemd tutorial, we look at the "Install" section of systemd service files. There's not a lot we can say about the "Install" section, so this one is short and sweet.

This time, we'll look at some basic Linux commands that work on all Linux, Unix, and BSD distros, as well as on the MacOS command line. We'll look at pwd, ls, cp, mv, touch, rm, clear, and mkdir. We'll also briefly look at how to pull up the man page and info page for each command.
Hopefully, this introduction to Linux and to the Linux terminal will help you out. Linux for beginners is what we do!

The lsblk command in Linux is a handy command for Linux administration. You can use it to view information about block devices on your Linux system, which are random access devices. In particular, this can help you with Linux storage management.

In this Linux tutorial, we look at Docker security. But, instead of just looking at docker container security, we'll look at docker host security. The best way to ensure this is to run a combination of podman-docker and SELinux, which are both available on RHEL 8-type operating systems. We'll also see that AppArmor, which is the Mandatory Access Control system on Ubuntu and SuSE, isn't effective at preventing security problems with dockers hosts.

YouTube Advertises a Scam. In this case, it's a classic cryptocoin scam, which asks people to send them some Ethereum. In return, the scammers promise to send double or triple the amount of Ethereum back. I know that most people won't fall for the scam, but some will, and it upsets me greatly that YouTube are allowing this sort of scam advertisement to run on their platform.

The big news from last week is that Adobe are killing Flash. Flash has done a lot of good for making the web what it is today, but it has also become very problematic due to the large number of Flash security bugs. So, the death of Flash is good news for almost everybody, but it's especially good news for desktop Linux users. Flash on Linux has always been problematic, so killing off Flash will make life much easier for Linux users.
