The DA-led Western CapeGovernment is trying its hardest to ignore that the overwhelming majority ofWestern Cape voters support a referendum being held on Cape Independence. Thisincludes 79% of the DA’s own voters*. An independence referendum does not fitin with the DA’s political plans, but in a democracy you cannot hide from thewill of the people for very long. The Referendum Party has beenfounded to force the DA-led Western Cape Government to listen to its ownpeople. Legal activist Pierre de Vos recentlysaid Cape Independence cannot be achieved without a revolution. We agree withhim entirely, but the pen is mightier than the sword. A referendum on CapeIndependence is a revolution – just a democratic and peaceful one. Referendum Party leader PhilCraig says, “The people of the Western Cape have had enough. The majority ofvoters in the province have never once voted for the ANC, and they are sick ofbeing led by greedy, incompetent, and corrupt politicians they despise. Whenthe DA finally relents and calls a referendum on Cape Independence, as theywill inevitably be forced to do, the Western Cape people will vote for theirindependence.” Cape Independence will put theWestern Cape people in charge of their own destiny. The current Constitutionensures that control of economic policy, policing, taxation, and borders vestswith the ANC national government in Pretoria, leaving the Western CapeGovernment powerless to create the type of country the Western Cape people wantand deserve. As a consequence, we have chronic unemployment, rampant crime,endless illegal land invasions, and Western Cape taxes are being stolen by ANCcronies. Craig says, “If people want asafe and prosperous long-term future, then Cape Independence is the onlyrealistic solution. It is clear that the multi-party charter will not even getclose to a national majority and one way or another the ANC will still be incharge after 2024. Voting DA in the Western Cape isn’t enough either. A DAgovernment in Cape Town is not going to save us when an ANC government inPretoria is making all of the decisions. Independence is the only solution.” The Referendum Party willcontest both the provincial and national elections. Once elected, the party willcontinually remind members of the Western Cape Parliament that they have swornan oath to the Western Cape people who must be placed ahead of party-politicalinterests. It will then table a motion calling for a referendum to be held onCape Independence and work with the Freedom Front Plus to fight for the WesternCape Peoples Bill which claims the right of self-determination for the WesternCape people. Referendum Party leader, Phil Craig, says, “It is disappointing that the DA would break their word and ignore the will of the Western Cape people on this issue, but what needs to be done is now clear. If people want a referendum to be held on Cape Independence, then in2024, they are going to have to vote for a referendum on Cape Independence.” A key party slogan will be, ‘A DA-led government in Cape Town isn’t going to save you, if an ANC government in Pretoria is making all of the key decisions.’ The Western Cape has no control of economic policy, policing, taxation, or its borders. As a result, the province has 25% unemployment, the highest murder rate in the world, subsidises ANC corruption and incompetence in the rest of South Africa, and is under siege from illegal land invaders who are denying legal residents resources. The DA-led Western Cape Government doesn’t have to like Cape Independence, but if the DA truly is a democratic party, then it does need to ask voters what it is that they want. As things stand now, Premier Winde is a roadblock to democracy.
