Gadget Reboot sent me a kit that he designed, so the polite thing for me to do is assemble it. It's a 555 breakout board that allows for easy experimenting in a more solid way than simply shoving everything on a breadboard.
Mail and beer. What a great combination!
This time there's also a couple of surprises from viewers like you!

This isn't the only way to do it.
It's probably not the best way to do it.
But it's how I do it.

Today I felt like building a kit.
And the one I pulled out of my box-o-kits is this simple little audio amplifier.
It's based on the TDA2030 amplifier chip. The circuit itself is quite simple but still gets quite loud.
Grab a cold one and join me for a nice relaxing build (and some really bad guitar playing at the end...)
Here's a search link to find your very own copy of this kit:

After almost 4 years, this cheap LED light failed.
Of course that means I'm going in to see why.
Yes, it's another curiosity teardown!
(this time with suspect math and bad assumptions that prove to be wrong later in the video!)
Here's the datasheet for the main chip (thanks Micheal): https://www.silergy.com/download/upload/pdffile/SSL5231BT.pdf/2599

An interesting electronic key / employee tracking device.
Turns out, it's not too exciting inside, but you never know these things until you take a look.

Almost 4 years ago I put together some WIFI controlled outdoor Christmas lights (https://youtu.be/ZxDq9-0VYHc)
'tis the season to make sure they still work, and make some more modifications
If anyone is curious, here's the code that runs it: http://pileofstuff.ca/r/ix8k7

Time to build a load for my track cleaning car to make it look less like a track cleaning car and more like a normal freight car that is earning it's keep on the railroad.
The load for that car is a big wooden crate built in my usual "quick-n-dirty" style.
Here is the video where I first built the track cleaner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC_s4TPz6vU

I started off trying to make a short video about installing a signalling detector, and ended up with this monstrosity 2 days later.
Sometimes things just don't go your way.
On the upside, I get to demonstrate track laying and the use of an NMRA track gauge.

If you have been watching some of my previous videos you will have heard me talking about converting an old NiCad drill battery pack to lithium ion power.
And today is the day!
But, of course, the project didn't go exactly to plan. In several ways.
Hopefully someone can learn from my mistake(s)... (I know I did)

Remember that cheap pulse oximiter I got in a mailbag a few weeks ago?
Well, it turns out it's not all that accurate, and not at all contestant.
So... time for a teardown! What's inside this little thing?
