Ecruteak City’s gym has a puzzle with a dark floor and elderly trainers. Navigate the floor and see if you take a clean path. If you step into a trap, you’ll be forced back to the entrance of the gym. Navigate through the dark floor and you’ll take on the gym leader. Morty uses Ghost type Pokémon. Normal type moves have no effect on Ghost types unless any of your Pokémon know Foresight. 3 of the opponents will use Mean Look to prevent switching out. One Haunter can use Mimic to copy off one of your moves you use on it. Gengar will be the hard part as it will combo with Hypnosis and Dream Eater. After winning, you’ll receive the Fog Badge and a TM30 (Shadow Ball). Shadow Ball has a 20% chance of lowering the target’s Special Defense stat.

The tallest pipe after the other one is the one you can go through for coins underground and as a shortcut. If you choose to continue ahead, you’ll see more mean girls and one garbage block containing multiple coins. One block above a camel rider contains a Star that makes you temporarily invincible, allowing you to defeat any enemy while flashing. You’ll see more mean girls up ahead and cross over 2 small staircases. After 2 more mean girls, cross the big stairway and you’ll reach the flagpole to finish.

If you see boulders, use Strength to push them through the holes so the water currents stop moving you around randomly. Once you push the boulders into the water, use Surf and you’ll see the legendary bird Pokémon, Articuno. Save your game before you interact with it. Articuno is on Level 50. A legendary Pokémon won’t be easy to catch. Use status problem moves, like sleeping then hurl out some Ultra Balls.
