We've set foot on Kerbin, now lets head to one of it's moons. Unfortunately we have a slight technical malfunction and the return takes some hard flying. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPNIZRgovmU
Salyut 1 was a quick hack put together by Soviet engineers who saw an opportunity to develop something historic. They took the structure of the military Almaz station which was still in development and added existing working hardware to make it a fully functioning space station.
Unfortunately, while it was a success there were problems with both visits to the station, one crew was unable to dock properly, while the second crew died on the way back to Earth.
If you want to find out more about soviet era hardware I suggest "Mir Hardware Heritage'

India making it to the moon successfully is the most important news of the past couple of weeks, and I'm happy to see the successful culmination of this mission. Beyond that we have a bunch of rocket launches including the first SAR satellite in Geosynchronous orbit launched by China, Russia's Launch and crash landing of Luna 25, the first Group 7 launch of Starlink, and the first proper passengers on Virgin Galactic.

Rocket Lab's Peter Beck presented a new update on the design of their forthcoming Neutron rocket and it's gone from being a near direct equivalent to the Antares to nearly matching the performance of the Falcon 9 but with much greater reuse potential and a significantly simpler and cheaper second stage.
Key differences include a much wider booster with more aerodynamic features for recovery and replacing the fairing with doors that can open and close to eliminate the need for separate fairing recovery.

After Apollo 11 returned from the Moon they were picked up by the USS Hornet, and that's where Neil Armstrong took his first steps back on Earth. Today this ship is a floating museum in Alameda full of exhibits covering it's various roles in wartime and peace, it's a pretty cool place for fans of history.

In the movie Interstellar time dilation is core to the story, so I thought I'd make a little explanation showing how time dilation naturally falls out of the fact that all observers see light moving at the same speed. Now, the full explanation with general relativity and everything else is a lot more complicated, but, it does all work!

The Minotaur Series of rockets developed by Orbital Sciences corporation probably incorporate some of the oldest bits of hardware currently launching things into space. The Minotaur 1 is based on old Minuteman II boosters, while the Minotaur IV uses old Peacekeeper boosters.
These use missiles which were decommissioned and placed in storage decades ago, but with some quality checks they're cleared to fly again and carry government payloads into space.

There is a new version of the free Kerbal Space Program Demo, updated to the latest version of the game engine but with a number of features disabled and only available on the paid version.
So, I went back to take a look at it, and in the process created a step by step guide for new players on how to travel to the Mun and back using the limited part set available in the demo release.
