From Ruptly, 7 August 2021
Daraa residents, many of them minors, who have been displaced by intensifying clashes in Syria's Daraa have fled to an emergency shelter set up in a school building, as seen on Thursday.
"Currently, there are 1,300 people in these temporary centres, which is equivalent to 300 families," stated Dr Abdul Falah, from the Executive Office of the Relief Sector in Daraa.
"Humanitarian and health support was provided to these families by the Syrian Red Crescent and the Family Planning Association," he added.
Many have fled after the latest round of negotiations between government and opposition forces in Daraa failed on Monday, leading to military escalations in the area.
Syrian army then attempted to regain control of the areas taken by anti-government forces. The violence intensified last Thursday after the opposition launched a counter-attack on army checkpoints.
The recent escalation is the largest of its kind seen in Daraa since the former opposition stronghold came back under government control in 2018.
The United Nations have called for an "immediate ceasefire" after 18,000 residents were forced to flee the area in the last month.

We took refuge [were displaced] the first time and the second time, and it is the third time for us, and the rest is god’s will. May god curse the gunmen for the sake of the lord of the worlds, and we return to our homes safely and in the glory of the lord of the worlds, oh mother, we don't want to keep moving from school to school, from house to house, and god it is hard for us. Life is so difficult."
