ℹ Can you escape Alcyon Rigid Handcuffs with Keyholes wrong way around? Challenge
Can you escape Alcyon Rigid cuffs with keyholes the wrong way around? Yes, but trickier than TCH. Here's how.
Opening TCH rigid cuffs in a similar manner as this is far easier. You have more room to work with and the keyholes are lower. These keyholes are higher and are at an awkward angle. You can still do it with just you and a key, but you need a better technique. There is not enough strength in your fingers to use the TCH technique.
If you try using the TCH technique I have shown before on my channel to escape when the keyholes are facing your body, as the arm begins to open the teeth will rip you apart! I never managed to do that. This handcuff challenge is more difficult than that :)
Watch the video for the demonstration. You need a different key positioning in your fingers and the use of a knee, preferably yours in order to not be accused of cheating :D
"Handcuffed? Who me? Tada...! I think not." Try it.
These are the Alfa Proj 9923 single handcuff which is used to attach to cases for secure transport as well as can be attached to a fixed object to ensure someone does not leave an area.
I had one of these years ago and eventually sold it, back when I did not have as good storage options to keep buying more and more handcuffs. These are more of a satin/matt finish whereas the old version was SUPER shiny. Also they have changed the branding design of these and I like it better. I will link a video in the top right to the original video of the old version of this cuff.
These Alfa Proj handcuffs are EXTREMELY SMOOTH. My god, I cannot describe to you how smooth they ratchet! Just lovely.
Also, I have not been able to pick this newer version by individually picking at the 2 pawls, so either I got lucky and got a bit more secure/tighter tolerance version or they generally improved the build quality even further.
They even went so far as to put the same satin/matt type of finish on the chain links too, which is a nice touch. The chain is the type which does not massively jangle, because who wants to sound like Jacob Marley when wandering down the street with a case full of important stuff lol.
Really nice handcuff. Hopefully this particular video serves as both an overview of this new model for you, as well as the comparison to the Russian one.
Enjoy

These are the Smith & Wesson M1900-1 leg irons. Similar to the slightly older M1900, but these have the familiar modern rivets as part of their construction.
These are very nice quality. Their shape and design mean they can fit quite a wide array of ankle/leg sizes.
They have the usual familiar window double locking mechanism and work pretty smoothly.
They are decently comfortable and because of the ovular shape, can accommodate with people with particularly muscular calves/ankles due to the shape.
They came with 2 standard chunky S&W keys, one of which I have converted into a back-cut TOOOL Ultimate Handcuff Key.
The nickel finish on them seems a bit on the patchy side. Almost like it consists of grubby hand prints all over it. It is hard to describe but you may perceive them to be dirty, but let me tell you that I have cleaned them with metal cleaner, polished them with Renaissance wax and given them some PTFE lubricant. It's part of the finish. Also it seems during transit they got slightly chipped. On the back of one of the double strands the nickel has flaked off on a small area making it feel a bit rough when running a finger over it. Normal skin contact areas are intact but this was a bit of a disappointment never the less.
I believe Yuil definitely copied this design. I no longer have a pair of Yuil leg irons, as at the time I did not really want to collect leg irons and I gave them to a worthy home :) But as I recall from memory these are extremely similar to each other.
On their smallest size, they are adequate to secure around my hands and on their largest size they would accommodate a leg larger than mine, so I find that quite impressive.
On the very very largest setting, within the ramp divot area, you can double lock them and they do appear secure, though because it is a slope either side, unsuccessful attempts to kick the bow tighter or pull it out may progressively damage the teeth on the pawl, whereas when closed on a normal click, any attempt to kick closed or pull open either go nowhere or merely pull on the pawl teeth. So I would recommend closing them on a proper click unless someone has SO large ankles that you have no choice but to use that little initial groove area.
These are mainly used in the US but there may be other places using them. I have seen them used in transport situations and in courtrooms/prisons but it's not a typical "cop on the street" item as far as I can tell.
Very nice and glad to have these in my collection!
Enjoy ?

I decided I could not modify the foam in my big case any longer to accommodate more handcuffs. So I was faced with the choice of sell handcuffs to make room in my handcuff collection or come up with a new idea to store them. Good source: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08F75WK2C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have bought 2 ammo boxes from eBay & Amazon which have the depth and width to store handcuffs in a single file row with plenty of space on top for loose ones. But the more expensive shallower one I got from Amazon (Plano brand) has the length needed to accommodate my Yuil LooOoooong rigid handcuffs, but the case has only 1 padlock hole which is really annoying because they have made it that way on purpose which defeats the whole purpose of the lock since someone can pry it open at the corner without a lock and get anything they want!.
But with both types, I can store more handcuffs and I can always buy more of these cases.
In my big black box, I have left the base foam inside and transferred some of my other locksport gear like my lock picks, ASP lock modules, gimmicked handcuffs, bobby pins & paper clips, handcuff keys and whatever else in there!
This is a less of a "display" kind of storage but more of a functional kind of storage which will let me add to my collection rather than having to keep selling handcuffs.
Enjoy.

For folding rigid handcuffs, TCH vs Hiatt what's the actual difference?
TCH and Hiatt are essentially the same company, Hiatt was bought and moved to the USA and the original people continued in the UK under the new name TCH [Total control handcuffs]. However there is a build quality difference...
Aside from the serial number being ground off on my Hiatt UL1 or sometimes labelled as UL-1-H, due to them being ex-police issue, the Hiatts are more sharp on the edges that come into contact with the wrist. I have seen this on my old pair of Hiatt speedcuffs as well, yet the corners on their Hiatt chain link handcuffs were somewhat cut at an angle to not have a sharp edge.
Over all, TCH is the worthy successor. They have a nicer quality to them some how and they are more comfortable due to having more rounded edges. You can sand or file the edges down of the Hiatts brand ones, but this is extra work.
Please like and subscribe :)
See you next time.

Overview: These are very smooth moving Peerless handcuffs. They are the model 700, but the longer chain version that has 6 extra chain links (Model 700-6x) (8 chain links total) which are designed to offer more comfort for larger individuals who are handcuffed behind their back.
These feature backloading capability, as shown in the video this offers quick and easy application on the wrists.
These are Nickel plated, they look great, they feel great.
Tolerances are acceptable on the single strand (rotating arm), they don't move laterally outside the pawl channel, however it would be nice if the tolerances there were a bit tighter. The key-way has nice tolerances making picking more difficult.
As for pawl security, they only have 1 pawl bar, meaning if you do not double lock them, someone might be able to shim them easily, with any thin piece of metal such as a thin pin. On some of my other cuffs they have multiple pawl bars, meaning a thin pin may trip 1 single pawl bar but not all at the same time.
That being said, the key-way is tight and is positioned as such that extra work would be likely needed in order to pick the lock.
As a side note, I always coat the exterior of my handcuffs in Renaissance wax, as it provides an even nicer feel to them and offers extra protection from rusting, tarnishing, damage from skin oils etc. Plus it gives them a slight extra visual sheen which I find quite pleasing after they get rubbed down with a micro-fibre cloth.

These are police handcuffs (model 1010) from CTS Thompson.
These are NIJ rated and are functionally identical to Chicago 1000, Chicago X55, Winchester WN40. They are a 3 pawl handcuff with dual double locking bars for slightly added security.
Over all these are all good handcuffs and this pair are no exception. Shame about the finish on mine being scuffed, despite being brand new and received today.
I would say these and the other models mentioned above, are slightly more secure than Peerless or Smith & Wesson standard handcuff models.
Enjoy!

This is a technique called shimming being used on high security "unshimmable" Yuil silicone lined handcuffs using a home made split shim.
In my previous video I showed how to make the basic shim. The difference with the shim shown in this video is it's longer size and using a junior hacksaw blade put a half centimetre cut in the middle, creating 2 prongs that can go either side of a divided, double pawl cuff.
Fair disclosure, I show that the particular cuffs in this video are pretty sloppy with their tolerances. They are the aluminium model. I have tried this same shim on my non-aluminium chain link model and I was entirely unable to shim them due to tighter tolerances. *Sidebar*: My recommendation is to avoid anything from Yuil that is aluminium/aluminum/light-weight. The quality is sub-standard, less strong and worse locking mechanism than the normal silicone lined ones that aren't light-weight.
On the whole, Yuil handcuffs are high security compared to standard, they do offer more resistance to picking and shimming than standard handcuffs. However I have enough of a hard time trying to pick triple pawl cuffs that don't even have dividers between them or require split bit keys. Like any TCH handcuff, I fail every, I repeat every time. I just can't trip all 3 pawls but I can shim them like a champ if they aren't double locked!
Every handcuff has it's pros and cons. I'd just stay away from Yuil's light-weight product line.

Should you buy new? or ex-police handcuffs? This is a comparison between ex-police speedcuffs and a brand new pair, in terms of quality.
The used ex-police pair of TCH840 speedcuffs have some rust on the boss rivet (where the arm rotates from), the serial number is forcefully ground off using a grinding wheel and there are scrapes and marks on the black plastic. However they do function flawlessly on my pair.
Since this video, I have used break cleaner spray to remove the rust from the rivets, removed the black plastic and used break cleaner and WD40 to remove as much of areas of rust just inside the area covered by the plastic. I have not fully been able to remove it but I have cleaned it up loads.
I have brushed using a nylon brush, the inside area where the 3 retaining bars are and oiled them with "3-in-one with PTFE". I bought these to gimmick them so that I have a genuine brand new pair of fully functional TCH840 speedcuffs and these will become a gimmicked pair that can pull open. Just for completeness.
Thanks for watching
