Allison Gollust saga: WarnerMedia won’t say what ousted CNN boss Jeff Zucker did to violate news standards
WarnerMedia and parent company AT&T have stayed silent on what now former CNN boss Jeff Zucker did to violate the network’s News Standards and Practices after it was revealed 'journalism integrity' was breached by the ousted executive. Zucker was showered with praise from CNN’s biggest stars when he was shown the door earlier this month for what was initially chalked up as a consensual relationship with fellow CNN executive Allison Gollust that was never disclosed to the company. CNN staffers and outside observers alike never bought that explanation. as their relationship was said to be an 'open secret' throughout the media industry. But on Tuesday night. WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar announced Gollust would also leave the company after a third party probe into CNN’s handling of the 'issues' associated with Chris Cuomo and his big brother. former New York Gov. ALLISON GOLLUST RESIGNS FROM CNN FOLLOWING JEFF ZUCKER OUSTER 'The investigation found violations of Company policies. including CNN's News Standards and Practices. by Jeff Zucker. Allison Gollust. and Chris Cuomo.' Kilar wrote. indicating Zucker’s nondisclosed sexual relationship was not the reason he was forced to step down. The letter also indicated that more than 40 people were interviewed and over 100.000 texts and emails were combed through. The revelation came on the heels of an explosive Rolling Stone report that Zucker and Gollust fed 'talking points' to the former governor on how to respond to former President Trump’s criticism of the New York COVID crisis. WarnerMedia declined comment when asked a series of questions including. how did Zucker violate CNN's News Standards and Practices and whether texts and emails reviewed indicate that he advised Andrew Cuomo when he was governor of New York. CNN executive vice president of standards and practices Calvin Sims did not immediately respond to a request for comment. WarnerMedia parent AT&T did not respond to a request for comment. (Don't worry — I won't spoil the solution until the end of the post.) This apparent glitch also occurred in my household. where we solve it separately over our morning coffee — when my partner and I both had all five tiles flip green. we compared notes and found that we'd wound up with different answers. both correct. for the first time in over a month of playing. The key thing here is that I'm still playing on the original site. powerlanguage.co.uk. where creator Josh Wardle first uploaded the game. Most players have been migrated automatically to the New York Times website. after the company bought the game from Wardle in a seven figure deal last month — and that group includes my partner. as well as most of the friends in the group chat where we share our results. Cyberattack hits websites of Ukraine defense ministry and armed forces
(CNN)A hit the websites of Ukraine's defense ministry and armed forces. and the websites of two Ukrainian banks on Tuesday. according to Ukrainian government agencies' statements. It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the hacking incident. 'It's too early to attribute' responsibility. Victor Zhora. a deputy chairman at the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine (SSSCIP) who is investigating the incident told CNN. The incident comes as Russia has massed an estimated 150.000 troops close to Ukraine's border. according to United States President Joe Biden. and as US officials warn that a fresh Russian invasion could come at any time. Russia has denied it is planning to invade Ukraine. SSSCIP identified the incident as a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. which floods a website with phony traffic to disrupt access to it. DDoS attacks are relatively cheap and easy to carry out. While they can be disruptive. they do not necessarily require sophistication. Ukrainian officials said that by 7:30 p.m. local time (12:30 p.m. ET) access to the websites of the banks PrivatBank and Oschadbank had been restored. CNN journalists in Ukraine reported difficulty accessing the websites of the defense agencies Tuesday night. Ukrainian government officials 'continue to monitor and cut off' the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses from which the hackers are flooding Ukrainian websites with traffic. Zhora said. DDoS attacks can be difficult to trace to their source as hackers can spoof their locations to make it seem they are in a country they are not. Matt Tait. a cybersecurity expert and former information security specialist with the UK government's signals intelligence agency. said the DDoS attack appears to 'be part of a general campaign of harassment and demoralization against the public encouraged by the Russian government.' 'That said. this is quite distinct from military/kinetic cyberattacks that might be used in direct conflict. such as to disable utilities or achieve direct military objectives.' Tait told CNN. 'For this reason. I would urge caution in seeing this event as a direct precursor to invasion.' A separate cyberattack hit Ukrainian government websites last month. Ukrainian officials suggested Russian and Belarusian involvement. but investigators have not formally blamed those countries for the cyberattack.
