Federal elections are set by the Congress and the Constitution has no provisions for a delay to the January 20, 2021, presidential inauguration.
The Trump campaign released a statement regarding the president's tweet about delaying the election via CBS News.
Hogan Gidley, Trump 2020 National Press Secretary: "The President is just raising a question about the chaos Democrats have created with their insistence on all mail-in voting. They are using coronavirus as their means to try to institute universal mail-in voting, which means sending every registered voter a ballot whether they asked for one or not. Voter rolls are notoriously full of bad addresses for people who have moved, are non-citizens, or are even deceased. Universal mail-in voting invites chaos and severe delays in results, as proven by the New York Congressional primary where we still don't know who won after more than a month."
There is no evidence of voter fraud through mail-in voting, even in states with all-mail votes.
But several GOP state officials are forging ahead to do just that, undermining one of Trump’s arguments about how elections should be conducted amid the coronavirus outbreak.
While Trump has complained that voting by mail is “ripe for fraud," Republican state officials in Iowa, Ohio and West Virginia have all taken steps to ease access to mail-in ballots, following health officials’ warnings that voting in person can risk transmission of the deadly virus. The Nebraska's Republican governor urged voters to apply for absentee ballots. Florida's GOP chairman says the party will continue to run a robust vote-by-mail program.

There is little evidence to support Mr Trump's claims but he has long railed against mail-in voting which he has said would be susceptible to fraud.

Under the US constitution, Mr Trump does not have the authority to postpone the election himself. Any delay would have to be approved by Congress. The president does not have direct power over the two houses of Congress.

In a series of tweets, Mr Trump said "universal mail-in voting" would make November's vote the "most inaccurate and fraudulent election in history" and a "great embarrassment to the USA".

He suggested - without providing evidence - that mail-in voting, as it is known in the US, would be susceptible to foreign interference.
"The [Democrats] talk of foreign influence in voting, but they know that Mail-In Voting is an easy way for foreign countries to enter the race," he said.
Mr Trump also said postal voting was "already proving to be a catastrophic disaster" in areas where it was being tried out.

Sint Maarten (Frans: Saint-Martin, Engels: Saint Martin) is een eiland in de Caraïbische Zee, genoemd naar de heilige Maarten (Martinus van Tours). Het eiland behoort tot de Kleine Antillen. Het ligt 240 kilometer ten oosten van Puerto Rico en zuidelijk van Anguilla.
Sint Maarten is verdeeld in een Frans en een Nederlands deel, Collectivité de Saint-Martin respectievelijk het land Sint Maarten, die Frans resp. Nederlands en Engels als officiële talen hebben. De voertaal op het eiland is zoals op Sint Eustatius echter Engels, doordat de bevolking grotendeels afstamt van Engelstalige slaven.
Grenzen
De totale oppervlakte van het eiland bedraagt 87 km². De totale lengte van de grens tussen het Nederlandse en het Franse deel van het eiland bedraagt 10 km. Er is vrij verkeer tussen beide eilandsdelen.
Het Franse deel viel van 1946 tot 2007 onder het departement Guadeloupe, maar koos op 7 december 2003 bij referendum voor zelfbestuur en werd in 2007 een overzeese gemeenschap (collectivité d'outre-mer).
Het Nederlandse deel is sinds 10 oktober 2010 een apart land binnen het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden. Voorheen was het onderdeel van de Nederlandse Antillen.

Geschiedenis
Sinds 4000 v. Chr is het eiland bewoond, sinds ca. 800 door de Arowakken-indianen. In de 14e eeuw kwamen de Carib-indianen, die veel oorlogszuchtiger waren en mogelijk aan kannibalisme deden. Zij noemden het eiland Soualiga (Zouteiland).
Het eiland zou op 11 november (Sint-Maarten) 1493 door Columbus ontdekt zijn. De Spanjaarden lieten het eiland aanvankelijk met rust. Rond 1630 vestigden zich er Fransen en Nederlanders, vooral vanwege het aanwezige zout, maar zij werden door de Spanjaarden verdreven. Pas in 1644 gaven de Spanjaarden hun rechten op.
Op 23 maart 1648 tekenden het koninkrijk Frankrijk en de Republiek der Zeven Verenigde Nederlanden een overeenkomst (Verdrag van Concordia), waarbij het eiland gedeeld werd. Pas in 1817 werd deze overeenkomst definitief; het eiland was toen al ongeveer 16 keer van eigenaar verwisseld.
Orkanen
Sint Maarten ligt in een gebied dat kwetsbaar is voor orkanen. Zo werd Sint Maarten in 1995 zwaar getroffen door orkaan Luis, die grote schade aan het eiland berokkende.
Op 6 september 2017 werd het eiland getroffen door orkaan Irma. Deze was van de zwaarste categorie (5) en richtte opnieuw zware schade aan op het eiland, waarbij er meerdere doden en gewonden vielen. Er zijn bij elkaar vier doden gevallen door orkaan Irma.
Economie
Sint Maarten is een belangrijke toeristenbestemming. Er meren dagelijks meerdere cruiseschepen aan. Op het Nederlandse deel van het eiland bevindt zich het Princess Juliana International Airport, waarop vliegtuigen van het type Boeing 747 pal achter het strand kunnen landen. Ook op het Franse deel ligt een vliegveldje: Luchthaven L'Espérance. Amerikanen vormen het leeuwendeel van de toeristen die arriveren per cruiseschip en per vliegtuig.
Kunst, cultuur, sport, evenementen
Sint Maarten is historisch en cultureel een smeltkroes van Europese en Caribische invloeden, hetgeen onder andere in de kunst en architectuur van het eiland tot uitdrukking komt. Het is vrijwel onmogelijk om de kunst van Sint Maarten los te zien van de rest van het Caribisch gebied.
De Universiteit van Sint Maarten biedt door het jaar heen maar ook in de zomer diverse cursussen aan jongeren vanuit de hele Antillen. Favoriete sporten op het eiland zijn honkbal, softbal, boksen, atletiek, voetbal en basketbal. Daarnaast zijn de hanengevechten een bekend fenomeen. Deze oude sport wordt beoefend op onder andere het Franse deel van het eiland, La Savanna, Rambeaud en Grand Case. Hierbij wordt ook gegokt. In april is het jaarlijkse carnaval, dat in Afrikaans-Caribische stijl wordt gevierd. Dit carnaval wordt zelfs uitbundiger gevierd dan kerstmis. De voorbereidingen van de kostuums worden reeds in november gestart. Het eiland kent voorts veel toeristische trekpleisters, resorts, discotheken, restaurants en zwemgelegenheden, maar ook diverse musea, kerken, en concertlocaties.

In Piacenza, San Donato, monaco missionario irlandese divenuto vescovo di Fiesole, fondò nel IX secolo per i pellegrini irlandesi la Chiesa di Santa Brigida di Piacenza con annesso ospedale e ospizio dei pellegrini, donandola ai monaci di regola irlandese dell'Abbazia di San Colombano di Bobbio, monastero che già possedeva ampi feudi monastici nel centro-nord d'Italia. Inoltre San Donato scrisse sempre nel IX secolo la Vita di Santa Brigida di Kildare.
