Welcome onboard! On 23 May 2024, I flew on WestJet from Vancouver to Edmonton to give a series of Jack Talks the following day. They're mental health talks by jack.org where we get to share about mental health basics, being there for ourselves and others, resources, storytelling, and ways to join our programs. This was my first out of province speaking engagement and also my first visit to Edmonton in 11 years! This flight video is pretty much concentrated on the outside views as the flight crosses the Coastal and Rocky Mountains of British Columbia and Alberta, and also the WestJet product really isn't that special, with a generic cabin without IFE, as well as with the original dated cabin of the 737 NG, and a brief snack and drink service. WestJet is not a usual airline I choose to take, as this flight was paid by jack.org (similar to the Powell River and Jack Summit flights the previous years) and so they just went with the cheapest option for the specific travel dates. **Edit/update: disregard the footnote on 29:10 about the National Jack Summit: that has been cancelled over concerns of COVID-19.** Welcome to my first flight on the Airbus A350-1000! Here's a short hop across the pond from Toronto to London on British Airways! As you can see, this aircraft type has the best seat products across the whole BA fleet which made the flight very enjoyable! Many people might ask why am I doing an international trip in spite of the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, and the answer is very simple: BA is temporarily moving the A350-1000 off the Toronto route at the end of March, possibly due to the reduced demand for capacity caused by the outbreak, with no end date in sight. That being said, the flight was about 2/3 full with quite a few people able to stretch across all 3 seats in a row. I was fortunate to have an empty seat beside me as well. The A350-1000 is the first aircraft to feature all-new seat products across all classes, minus first class. This includes a much revamped Club World Suite, the new World Traveller Plus, and the all-new World Traveller class. Perhaps my favorite thing about the new seats is that they've done away with the large and bulky electronics/IFE box underneath each seat that existed in other aircraft like the 787 which obstructed quite the legroom. Here on the A350, I'm able to stretch my legs pretty much unobstructed under the seat. Another major point of improvement is the IFE screen which is much more responsive and has done away the remote. As with other BA flights however, the food is excellent, and the tomato sauce penne pasta option for dinner is quite possibly the best economy class meal I've had anywhere in the world. The only thing on the A350 that bugged me a little bit is that the tail camera doesn't seem to be accessible on the IFE screen. Other A350 airlines like Finnair have the tail camera readily accessible. Here is the last leg on the long trek from Hong Kong to Montreal via Helsinki and London Heathrow, on a British Airways Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. Our previous flight was Finnair AY831 from Helsinki and we had an 8 hour layover at Heathrow. The layover actually did not feel so long, since there was a lot of opportunity for planespotting inside Terminal 5 and lots of shops and restaurants to enjoy. Like my previous flight on BA, the experience was positive with comfortable seats and excellent food. A definite highlight of this flight was air-to-air footage with a BA Boeing 747-400 flying about 3000 ft below us in the same direction (seen at 17:00). Having taken a break from YouTube for a few months, here's a video back in May during my trip to London. This was filmed the same night as my other Southeastern and TfL Rail videos from a day trip to visit a friend who lives in Northfleet. The trip takes about 12 minutes between Ebbsfleet International and Stratford International on the High Speed 1 line, also known as the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL). The Class 395 Javelin was built by Hitachi in Japan, and 29 sets were built for this service. Each set is 6 cars, but can be combined into a 12-car train using automatic coupling. These use the TVM 430 (Transmission Voie-Machine) in-cab signalling, which displays speed limits and signal instructions on a display inside the cab, and speed limit changes occur at blue-green triangle signs located at regular intervals along the line. These sets also travel on regular lines that use the legacy AWS (automatic warning system) signalling. These are equipped with AC pantograph for the High Speed 1 line, and DC third rail for other lines. The train's top speed is 225 km/h (140 mph) on HS1, and 160 km/h (100 mph) on other lines. In this video an overview of the train interior is shown as well as a beautiful sunset as we head west, and a glimpse of a Eurostar Class 374 (e320) heading to Temple Mills depot at the end of the day.
