PETA activists in Berlin have protested against a controversial pilot whale hunt on the Faroe Islands. At the square near the iconic Brandenburg Gate, some demonstrators dressed as pilot whales and covered themselves in fake blood. They rallied with banners reading ‘Faroe Islands, stop the bloody whale slaughter.’
According to local authorities in the autonomous Danish territory in the North Atlantic, more than 500 long-finned pilot whales, a large species of oceanic dolphin, have been killed by hunters in Leynar since their hunt resumed in May, as part of a 1,000-year-old Faroese tradition. Although the traditional hunt is non-commercial and authorized, it has long faced opposition from environmental activists.

A tiny alligator who lost her nose and upper jaw, most likely in a collision with a boat, has found a forever home at Florida’s Gatorland reptile park. The gator made waves on social media, which led the staff at Gatorland to perform a rescue mission, bringing her from about 20 miles (32 kilometers) away.
‘She had basically no chance of surviving in the wild with such a severe injury,’ said the park in a social media post. Now, however, the gator will live the rest of her life in ‘alligator paradise,’ according to her excited caregivers in her introductory video. The park is also asking the public to come up with names for the gator, although it goes without saying that anyone who suggests ‘Gator McGatorface’ will be immediately shunned by society, if society has any sense.

The Pentagon is still dealing with the fallout of a botched drone strike in Kabul, which killed a young family. It's the latest in a long string of cases over the years where a terror suspect has been targeted but civilians have paid the price.
