The last Republican president to not add to the national debt was Calvin Coolidge. The last Republican president to balance the federal budget was Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1960. And the last Republican Congress to balance it was in 2001. Over the last 50 years, the Republican Party has largely failed at fis-cul responsibility. With that said, it’s important we understand how to balance the budget so we don’t fall into the trap of thinking that the way to do it is via tax hikes. Priority #1 Republicans first budgetary priority should be to cut taxes in order to reduce federal revenue as a percentage of GDP. If after a tax cut, federal revenue is still above 10% then that means it wasn’t cut enough. If we cut taxes a little then that could actually increase federal revenue, but as conservatives we shouldn’t want to see “tax cuts pay for themselves.” If federal revenue falls below 10% then we can start to consider its ideal level (3% is the historical average), but since that’s unlikely to happen anytime soon due to the rising cost of entitlements and the Left’s incessant desire for more spending then this potential point of departure among the Right will unfortunately likely remain theoretical in our lifetime. Kennedy The modern Democratic Party supports increasing federal revenue because on the surface 16.3% (2019) of the largest GDP in the world may not sound like much, but when you add it on top of state and local taxes, government tax revenue is roughly 40% of GDP or $25K per person, which is more than what virtually every government on Earth taxes per person. As a federalist, I believe local and state governments should have a larger share of the tax revenue so that if you wanted to keep tax revenue at 30% GDP then one way to think about it is your city government would get 10%, state government 10%, and the federal government 10% (historically federal spending was 1/3). Power to the states! This was the intent of our constitution in part because it’s fundamentally more democratic so if, for example, Texans want less government (8%) and New Yorkers want more (14%) they can have that choice! Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced a border security plan that includes enforcing the law, building more wall, and activating EMAC. "We’re going to start making arrests—sending a message to anyone thinking about coming here—you’re not getting a free pass. You’re getting a straight pass to a jail cell." EMAC is an interstate compact that seeks financial & human support from other states during an emergency situation such as hurricanes, storms, floods, wildfires, and most recently COVID-19. Both Governor Abbott and Arizona Governor Ducey have activated EMAC to seek from other states additional law enforcement officers, drones, and helicopters to help with the surge in illegal crossings. In a statement, Abbott acknowledged that the Biden administration’s policies have created a humanitarian crisis at the southern border with record levels of illegal immigrants, drugs, and weapons pouring into Texas. "While securing the border is the federal government’s responsibility, Texas will not sit idly by as this crisis grows. The state is working collaboratively with communities impacted by the crisis to arrest and detain individuals coming into Texas illegally. Some speculate she refuses to go to the southern border because it would make for a bad “photo-op.” The Biden Administration blocked reporters from taking photos of “kids in cages” by using COVID-19 as a pretext. Even liberal media outlets condemn them for this abuse of power because it corrodes trust in “trust the science” when they use a global pandemic to hide their own hypocrisy. The truth is that the Democratic Party has been the party of “kids in cages” because of their reluctance to stop or deport illegal immigrants, which is why the Obama administration built those cages in the first place. In this video I'll make the case for why Super Tuesday marked the end of the road for the Sanders campaign. To make my case let’s just start by looking at the delegate count… 38% of delegates were awarded yesterday and Joe Biden won a majority of them. The exact total will take days to tabulate, but the bottom-line is that Joe Biden won Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Minnesota, Maine, Massachusetts, and Texas. Bernie Sanders won California, Colorado, Utah, and his home state of Vermont. This outcome has made it virtually impossible for Bernie Sanders to win a sizable plurality of the delegates and Bernie Sanders needed at least a sizable plurality if he was going to have any shot at winning the Democratic nomination. The reason Bernie Sanders needs at least a sizable plurality of the delegates is because Joe Biden is clearly the establishment’s 1st choice, which is a big deal because if no candidate has a majority of the delegates on the first ballot of the convention then on the second ballot superdelegates get to vote and pledged delegates get to switch sides, which means superdelegates would break for Biden, as 90% had broken for Hillary Clinton in 2016, and the pledged delegates that went to Pete, Amy, Bloomberg, and potentially Warren would also go to Biden therefore winning Biden the nomination. Bernie Sanders best hope in my opinion is for Elizabeth Warren and Mike Bloomberg to drop out so it can be a two-man race because with multiple candidates in the race it only makes it more likely that we’ll see a contested convention and with their continued existence it means that even if Joe Biden makes a bunch of gaffes between now and June then those voters could still switch and vote for Bloomberg or Warren, which doesn’t help Bernie Sanders because as I mentioned before he needs at least a massive plurality of delegates going into the convention if he’s going to have any shot at winning the nomination. And I’ll add that Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders have been running for president for about a year now, which means I don’t think there is much Joe Biden could say at this point that would shock his voters enough to jump ship for Bernie Sanders.
