This is a short Tutorial on how to check the file integrity of a file and or files you have downloaded from the internet, provided the developer has uploaded the checksum as well.
Terminal Command:
Shasum -a 256 [filepath]
This is a very straightforward process that lets you check the file you have downloaded, to see that it is the exact file the developer has uploaded for you to download and that no one has tampered with the file and put viruses or any other type of malware in it after the developer has uploaded it.
you mostly find this checksum on applications that are open source.
I’m Making these Tutorials because when I had a question about this stuff, I could not find anything, so I’m trying to make these the way and how I would have wanted to find Tutorials about it. If that makes any sense.
