How Do You Start a VW Restoration Project #vwbus #vw #volkswagen
We snuck up on Spook to ask him, "How do you start a VW restoration project?" Whether you're doing it yourself or taking your Volkswagen to a restoration shop, the best way to get started is... well, you'll just have to see what he says.

Plus, we took a little shop tour to see what's going on this week.
- Spook's installing a steering gearbox in Christine, the 1959 VW Double Door Panel Bus that had an unfortunate and unexpected meetup with a wall, thanks to a texting driver who ran into our client. There's not a whole lot left on her punch list, and she should get an alignment next week. Before you know it, Dan will be driving in sweet patina style.
- Alex is working on getting Cabral's 1978 VW Westfalia Camper juiced up. With the electrical working, now we've got turn signals and almost have working wipers. That family's going to have such a great time going on adventures in this gorgeous camper.
- The 1952 VW Beetle Ragtop (Zwitter) is nearly out of the paint shop. Next is assembly. We're going to need to grab a jaw-dropping shot to go on the cover of the CarTech book we're wrapping now (How to Build and Modify a Beetle). Since this rare VW has so many modifications underway, it's the perfect example for the book. Plus, it's a real looker! (Well, except for purists... you should probably shield your eyes and look away.)
- The 1965 Karmann Ghia for Gazzo is awaiting parts and is almost through the final stages of assembly.
- Robinson's 1961 VW Beetle now has a headliner installed and we're just waiting for the carpet kit to arrive. We can't wait to send it home so its original owner can get that baby back on the road and enjoy it.
- With Rusty, the 1967 VW 21-Window Ragtop, we're waiting for the airbag suspension to come in from Wagons West. Meanwhile, we're doing what we can on the floor structure. Can't go too far until we install the suspension - it's way easier without all that metal in the way.
- We've got an influx of Beetles! A 1969 VW Baja in for a suspension lift and engine, a 1973 VW SuperBeetle Convertible in for assembly, a 1969 beige Beetle in for metal repair, a yellow 1973 Karmann Ghia in for a new engine, and probably forgetting something else in there... kind of a full shop!

Thanks for visiting with us! If you enjoy watching what's going on in the shop, give us a like and subscribe - please and thank you.
