This was the first test for our two home-made fuelless cookers, (see links to how we made them in the video response section below). We are using them here to cook a cassoulet and a baked rice pudding. I shall link this to a blog with more information on how we cooked the food and as we are repeating the experiment today, with more precision on the temperatures and cooking times. We don't eat meat very often as we only buy organic food and it is our most expensive item. This way of slow cooking cooking enabled us to get maximum flavour for minimum outlay. When we returned home, we went on to finish the cassoulet in the traditional way in the oven. We sprout a variety of grains and legumes (pulses) for our fantail pigeons. The mix is first soaked overnight in buckets and then drained and rinsed. It is then rinsed every day for the following 6 days. On the seventh day it is considered to be at its optimum nutritional quality, with the peas and vetch well sprouted.
