Hello. The isopods are multiplying and eating well. I've been misting the terrarium every few days to keep the plants alive, and feeding them lots of dried mealies, along with vegetable ends.
I've been using Affinity Photo 2 to do focus stacks with my macro lens, but I just realized it can do other kinds of stacking as well.
I've been playing around with taking high speed image sequences and using the "HDR Merge" feature as a means of high ISO noise reduction, and the results are pretty impressive.
I'm not using a tripod; these are all hand held, and the software does a great job of auto aligning everything for the stack.
The stack of photos after an HDR merge will look pretty contrasty and saturated and garish, but if you turn "Tone Mapping" all the way down, it will return to normal.
Note: merging 2 images is not a one stop improvement in ISO performance, it takes 4 images to get a one stop ISO improvement, 8 photos for 2 stops, 16 photos for 3 stops, etc. It makes a huge improvement in bright areas, but shadow areas are still pretty noisy, so I like to run a curves adjustment on the image to darken those shadows and hide the noise.
The images can end up looking soft after a merge. I think much of the fine detail is lost in the high ISO noise, and doing a photo stack cleans the noise but doesn't restore the detail. I ran the image though Topaz AI to sharpen it up a bit.

The closer you look, the less you see.
When you look at a painting from far away, you see an image, as you get closer, you stop seeing the image, it breaks up and all you see are the brush strokes. Weird.

How can it possibly be selfish to make educational videos and release them for free?

I went backpacking through Algonquin Park.
After a rainy morning, I set up my camera to record the sunny afternoon.
Shot with my Nikon Z6 and 14-30mm f/4 S lens. My tripod broke on the hike, so my camera was held in place with a pile of pine cones and tree bark.

My old pair of wireless headphones, the Sony MDR-RF985R are well over 3 years old now, (maybe 4 or even 5) and are pretty worn out.
The replacement model to these headphones, the MDR-RF995R, have received some fairly poor reviews online.
After a bit of investigation, I discovered there is nothing wrong with the new model of headphones. The problem is the new base station that accompanies them. It is quite underpowered compared to the older base station.

I filmed myself working in the studio.
No talking, just painting.
You'd think being an artist, and a camera nerd, and a YouTuber that I'd be all over recording myself in the studio. I have found, however, that a camera can be very distracting. I find myself performing for the camera more than working on the painting. So I normally don't do it, and instead record my "Kyle Paints" vlogy videos while I'm waiting for a layer of paint to dry.
I don't know why, but with this painting, the sketch looked really different from all the others, and recording the process just felt right with this one.
No talking, no babble, no explaining things, just a mix of timelapse, sped up and real time footage of me working on a painting between June 6th and July 1st.
Name to be assigned later.

In my last video, I took the music from 'Kyle Paints 2017 Episode 7' in another direction and thought I'd make a long, slow, ambient video experience out of it.
But the music wasn't glitchy enough to match the visuals. So I remixed the music, and re-did the video.

I saw a really pretty candle holder at a thrift store, so I bought it and shot it.
