In this video, we show the onions that we grew in our Back to Eden garden. We planted three varieties of onions; yellow, white, and red onions. The yellow onions are super sweet, but will only store for about 2 months. On the other hand, the white and red onions should store much longer after the drying process is complete. Many of our onions are about softball in size! After they started growing well, we mulched them with straw. This was primarily to help keep the weeds down.
After harvesting the onions, we spread them out on some old window screens that lay across some saw horses. This allows airflow from the top and bottom of the onion to quicken the drying process.
We ordered our dormant onion sets from DixondaleFarms.com. They specialize in onions and leeks. We also ordered some starter and feeding fertilizer from them. Their website provides a wealth of knowledge for anyone interested in growing onions. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGjAW0lSsa4
In this video, we prepare the raised beds for planting by adding coco coir to the first several inches of our soil. This should help the beds to retain water within the root zone of the plants and help keep the beds from drying out as quickly.
Here is a link for where we purchased our coco coir blocks:

We purchased the large 5KG (11-pound) block since we needed it to cover the top surface area of our large raised beds. However, it's also available in smaller blocks too:

In this episode, I talk about ways to monitor power production and usage within the home. The two methods presented are by using a low cost Kill-O-Watt meter that can be connected to individual 110v devices to measure power consumption. Otherwise, this device be connected to a grid-tie inverter to measure total solar production. Next, I talk about the Sense Home Energy Monitor and how it can be used to measure the entire house all at once.

Instead of fighting the cabbage worms all year by spraying any toxic chemicals, we decided to cover our brassicas. It seems to be working great! There are very few holes in the plants leaves and very few worms can be found.
The cabbage is looking really good and healthy, although heads have not started forming yet. The broccoli is some of the best we've ever grown to date! The Brussels
sprouts are also looking super healthy, but no sprouts are forming yet.
We are using the Back to Eden growing method throughout our garden. For more information about this method, be sure to check out our video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SK3DNM9MOUs

To find used laptop batteries for salvage, search online for Computer and Electonics Recyclers in your area. Contact them and ask if you can purchase some of those. Be sure you have the opportunity to view those BEFORE making the purchase. You will need the type that contain the cylindrical style 18650 batteries instead of the newer style laptop batteries that contain flat pouch cells.

Last year I built my first acoustic guitar and took still photographs throughout the build process. This year, I decided to build another guitar and video record the process.
In this episode, I begin making the inside bracing for the back of the guitar. The bracing is made of Sitka spruce and hand shaped using a rasp and file.

In this video, I share the issues and problems I'm experiencing with my Anleolife Garden Beds.
While the initial customer service I received from this company seemed positive, I cannot provide a positive review for the quality of their products or for their follow-up service after problems are identified.
They advertise that their garden beds will last for many years, but they only offer a 30-day refund and return policy and are quick to point that out!

In this video, I show the screen house I put together for protecting our blueberries and raspberries. This could also be used for protecting any other garden crops from birds, deer, or flying insects such as cabbage moths.
This structure was sold as a chicken coop. However, I installed a woven mesh netting material instead of the vinyl coated chicken wire that came with it.
Overall, I'm impressed with the quality and durability of both the metal frame structure and with the strength of the woven mesh material. I believe this is a great, low-cost solution for many garden pest problems.

In this episode, I mount a piece of plywood on the wall that will serve as a backer board. This will be used to hang all of my solar components and safety devices securely onto the wall. The components to be mounted onto this include solar inverters, solar charge controllers, bus bars, fuses, circuit breakers, lightning protection, and a few other items.

In this video, Ginny and I go Paw Paw hunting near our house. This is our first hunt. Even though it's late in the Paw Paw season, we were successful in finding about a dozen Paw Paws. Next year, we'll need to begin hunting around the beginning of September instead of October.
Paw Paws are a fruit that grows all around the Ohio area. It has a taste similar to bananas, pear, and mango all mixed together. They are delicious!
The town we live in (Albany, Ohio) happens to be the location of Ohio's Annual Paw Paw festival. This festival takes place about a half mile from were we live.
