Cryptocurrency smart contracts and DeFi protocols have taken finance to the next level by empowering people across the globe to buy, sell, lend, borrow, and trade assets without the need for a trusted middle man. Despite the power of smart contracts and DeFi, there is still room for improvement. Namely, smart contracts have no way of seeing real world data or being triggered by actual events. In order to assure a decentralized, robust data feed, many smart contracts rely on entities known as oracles. If you're unfamiliar with oracles or how they work, then this is the post for you! #crypto #link #chainlink

Since DeFi protocols can't perform credit checks or assess the credit worthiness of borrowers using the same tools of traditional finance, they typically rely on loan over-collateralization to ensure that lenders will be able to receive their funds back. When borrowers' outstanding loan balances exceed their loan collateral value, they are "liquidated" by third parties that swoop in, repay the loan, and make a profit. In today's post, I'll explain why overcollateralized loans are essential to DeFi, how over-collateralized loans work, and how liquidations function. #crypto #defi #comp

In a recent tweet, famed gold bug and Bitcoin Basher Peter Schiff mentioned that one of his bank accounts was closed for what were presumably unfounded reasons. Many crypto enthusiasts have used this as an "I told you so moment" to highlight the fact that the cryptocurrencies that Peter so wholeheartedly disparages are designed to prevent the very thing that has happened to him. Although there is a certain bit of irony in the situation, I think it's important not to make fun of someone's misfortune, and I'd rather take a more nuanced approach. In this post, I'll explain how cryptocurrencies are designed to protect individuals from the overreach of third-party financial institutions, and I'll also explain some of the differences between gold and crypto. #crypto #btc #cryptocurrency
