Granny's Spaghetti - 4th July 2009 - 23rd August 2009
My 21th song. After 20 practice songs I treated myself to loads of more meaty sound samples, instead of limiting my range to effectively just keygen stuff. To me this is the transition song where I begin to choose my instruments more carefully, but it still has the melody-led approach that I used with my earlier songs. One of the instruments was called 'Granny's radio' and the theme of the song was that of a spaghetti western so I combined the two and came up with this name. One of the first bits of feedback I got was that the best bit of the song was the bit at the very end (not included on this video, can hear it on my website link)- the one bit that wasn't melody-driven, hence the style of my next song, 'I Like to Eat'.

Same walkway, 7 different lighting styles. It's interesting how lighting can alter the mood of a level so much. My favourite way would be just to remove the ceiling and have a skybox there instead for more natural lighting.

de_train is a difficult one since the light_environment and env_sun display different properties. All Valve has to do is to either set the env_sun to the light_environment's angle properties and all will be well. The reason I explain how to line it up with the sun in the sky is because a lot of skyboxes have a sun 'painted on' and you have to try and line up the light_environment and env_sun to that point in the sky. Consider this a Hammer tutorial ;)

Point_template is an entity to spawn objects. You simply place the name of the objects you want to spawn in this entity, then force it to spawn. Or at least, that's how I do it and it works.
Remember to click ADD if you don't see white boxes in the outputs.

This tutorial shows you how to use the Source SDK to make good lighting. It covers...
1) light_environment
2) light
3) lightmap scale
4) skybox texture
5) env_sun object
6) env_fog_controller
and should help to make your map look roughly 1000 times better than if you don't include any form of lighting what so ever.
