In today's video, I open up about my relationship with the spirit of music and the power of heart felt improvisation. Learning to "let go" of the creative trauma that has left you feeling stuck and afraid to be one with the music you wish to channel can feel difficult but is so infinitely rewarding. As well as touching on some of my background with musical frustrations, I introduce you to the absolutely magical Open D5 tuning (DADDAD). This open tuning is quite unlike what you are used to if you have only ever played guitar in the standard EADGBE configuration as it allows for incredibly simple fretting to move you deeply as it is supported by the drone of the open strings. I would love to hear more about your personal journeys with music, whether you have found liberation from your demons are are currently still stuck fighting them. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD0bGOKPwHw

This is part eight in a series on mindset hacks where I will discuss small changes you can make to the way you think that will help you develop as an artist and flourish into the magical creative you are so capable of becoming.
In todays video I will talk a little bit about how what we find to be interesting and therefore important shapes the way we work and dictates the types of processes we deem to be cheating. The point of todays video is pretty much, as an artist you are allowed to do "whatever the hell you want whenever you want" because we will always be judged by someone for something.
Everything is acceptable in your art so long as YOU think it's acceptable. Be damned with anyone else's view of how you work if the way you work makes you happy. With this comes the understanding that we must let others work 'however the hell' they want also and to realise that what we think is important is rarely what others think is important.

I'm Alex Christopherson and I just love teaching people about the wonders of music production. I've been making music as a career since I left school and have had plenty of ups and downs in life since but I've never stopped creating and learning. Let's have some fun!

Another not so quick video on how you can quickly manipulate audio loops into more workable rhythms using Bitwigs 'Preview Onset' button. I'm not sure if this is its intended use but it has certainly given me some great results when layered with other techniques of audio mangling. This is another very handy trick for creating short and choppy microhouse rhythms a la Villalobos or those cool ass dudes from Romania. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to record and upload these videos so any tips from your end are much appreciated and very welcome! Hope you find it useful and happy creating yo ♥

In todays video we look at how we can emulate the ultimate happy accident machine; Music Thing Modulars 'Radio Music' module using the Sampler in the Grid.
'Radio Music' is a curious little sampler that aims to mimic switching through radio stations. You load it full of sounds and can then sweep through them to find exciting and unexpected sounds free from staring at waveforms.

In today's video, we look at my favourite new feature in Bitwig 5; project-level modulation. We will use modulators across all the channels to create different intensity sections in our arrangements. Doing so allows us to smoothly morph between energy states. This makes for far more organic and flowing productions.

Todays experiment sprouted out of thinking of all of the possible moves in a chess game as simply notes in different octaves of the A minor scale. Files A-G are self-explanatory, while file H becomes an octave of file A. The rising numbers vertically up the board dictate the octave.
Let us find out, together, whether or not this was a bad idea :)
