In this video, I talk about learning how to say now. I'll explain why it's important to pick your priorities and set boundaries around what you can do and what your interests are. #boundaries #priorities #standards One of the biggest problems we have these days is the paradox of choice. We have so many options, interest and directions we could go in and we don’t know which one to choose or which one to leave out. It leads to analysis paralysis because we don’t know what’s the best choice and we don’t want to give up options. So what do we do … We do too many things at the same time and we say ‘yes’ too many times and too many things. We have too much interests and find it hard to say no to certain things. But what happens? The load becomes too heavy to carry and we give up or we switch all the time and frequently, so we never really go deep and get anything done. To truly become productive, we must make decisions, have clear boundaries and decide what we are going to do and we are not going to do. Else we’ll be all over the place, with no focus, and not getting anything done, hoping from interest to interest with nothing to show for it. We ‘ll have breadth, but we won’t have depth. ➡️ If you do something 2 hours each day for 5 years … that means you have practiced a habit and a skill in something for more than 3600 hours already. If you do 6 things 20 minutes a day for 5Vyears, then you ‘ll have practiced that skill for 600 hours. That’s an enormous difference in how much you have mastered that skill. ⬅️ But often we don’t even practice that skill many hours and for many years, we just stop and move to something that is ‘more interesting’, so we never really master it. ❌ INTERESTING, BUT NOT NOW ❌ So one of the most important things you will have to learn to say is ‘Interesting, but not now’, both to yourself and to others. Sometimes we make promises to ourselves and others we can’t live up to. People will also respect you more and you will respect yourself more if you keep your promises. ‘Interesting but not now’, is an important skill to learn so you say no to things that you can’t do or can’t commit to at the moment. Maybe you’re are a people pleaser and you say ‘yes’ too quickly because you never learned how to say no and you feel you are disappointing people if you say ‘no’. But in the end, people will appreciate you more when you have integrity and communicate clearly what you can and can not do. The prompter the refusal, the less the disappointment. People are less disappointed if you refuse in advance then promising something and then not doing it.
