Title: Politika
Author: Tom Clancy
File Type: Mobi
Subject:Fiction:War
Description:From Library JournalActor Jay O. Sanders provides an acceptable narration of best-selling author Clancys (Debt of Honor, Audio Reviews, LJ 111594) reactivation of hostilities between the United States and Russia. With widespread crop failures and the sudden death of Boris Yeltsin, the Russian situation is dire at best. Old-school communists see the opportunity to scuttle American relief efforts by launching a terrorist attack in Times Square. Roger Gordian, a U.S. businessman, finds his multinational corporation in peril and takes the initiative to prevent escalation to full-scale war. Sanderss Russian accents are shaky and seem more appropriate to a Rocky and Bullwinkle adventure. Clancys abridged story is subject to frequent character shifts, and the action is difficult to follow. Libraries may skip this disjointed effort. Not recommended.?Ray Vignovich, West Des Moines P.L., IA 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc. The sudden death of Russias president has thrown the Russian Federation into chaos. The country is in the grip of famine and an uprising is inevitable. He is forced to seek shelter in a boarding house in the nearby village of Axat. There he meets another guest in the tiny hotel, a pale and beautiful young woman called Marie. As the storm rages outside, she explains how the region was ripped apart by wars of religion in the 14th century. She tells how, one terrible night in March 1328, all the inhabitants of Axat were forced to flee from the soldiers into the mountains. The villagers took refuge in a cave, but when the fighting was over, no one came back. Their bodies were never found. Axat itself became a ghost town. When Freddie wakes the following morning, Marie has gone. Worse still, his car will take several days to repair and he has to stay at the boarding house for a few days more. To pass the time, he explores the mountains. Then he realises it is almost 600 years to the day since the villagers disappeared. He decides to go and look for the cave himself. Perhaps, he thinks, he might even find Marie? It is a decision he will live to regret.
Title: The Paleo Diet
Author: Loren Cordain
File Type: Mobi
Subject:food
Description:Amazon.com ReviewAccording to author Loren Cordain, modern health and diet problems didn't start with the advent of packaged snack food, but much earlier--back at the dawn of the agricultural age many thousands of years ago. As humans became less nomadic and more dependent on high-carbohydrate diets, we left behind the diet we had evolved with, which is based on low-fat proteins and plenty of fruits and vegetables. Sugars, fats, and carbs were rare, if they were present at all, and survival required a steady, if low-key, level of activity. Cordain's book The Paleo Diet blends medical research with a healthy sprinkle of individual anecdotes, practical tips, and recipes designed to make his suggestions into a sustainable lifestyle, rather than a simple month-long diet; he even includes cooking recommendations and nationwide sources for wild game. Claims of improving diseases from diabetes to acne to polycystic ovary disease may be a little overstated, but in general the advice seems sound. Can any of us really go wrong by adding lots more vegetables and fruits to our daily regimen? One recommendation on safe tanning with a gradual reduction in sunscreen is surprising and not much detail is provided for safety issues that can accompany increased sun exposure. Still, Cordain's assertions have helped many people, and could provide exactly the changes you've been looking for to improve your health. --Jill LightnerFrom Library JournalLike Ray Audette's Neanderthin (St. Martin's, 1999), this is another if you can't find it in the wild, don't eat it diet that takes the germ of a useful idea and runs with it. According to Cordain (health and exercise science, Colorado State Univ.), Paleolithic humans were fit and lean because, as hunter-gatherers, they ate what was available: meats low in saturated fats, fresh fruits, and nonstarchy vegetables. Nor did they suffer from heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, the byproducts of our poor eating habits and lack of exercise. Then again, the average Paleolithic life span was about 30 years, not long enough to develop most chronic illnesses. Still, the author asserts that by eliminating grains, dairy, refined sugars, and processed foods from our diets, we, too, can thrive as our ancestors did. Three levels of diet and six weeks of sample menus, with recipes, are included. 2002 Cahners Business Information, Inc.

Title: The Myth of a Christian Religion_ Losing
Author: Gregory A. Boyd
File Type: Mobi
Subject:Religon
Description:
The kingdom of God is a beautiful revolution. Marked by the radical life, love, servanthood, and humility of Jesus, it stands in stark contrast to the values and ways of the world. Regrettably, many who profess to follow Christ have bought into the world's methods, seeking to impose a sort of Christianized ethical kingdom through politics and control. In this illuminating sequel to his bestselling book The Myth of a Christian Nation, Dr. Gregory Boyd points us to a better way-a way of seeing and living that is consistent with the gospel of Jesus and his kingdom. Between the extremes of passivity on the one hand and political holy war on the other lies the radical, revolutionary path of imitating Jesus. In twelve areas ranging from racial and social issues to stewardship of the planet, this book will convince and inspire you to live a Christlike life of revolt and beauty-and it will help you attain a practical lifestyle of kingdom impact.
