Today, I am focusing on wood burning the background waterfalls and water pools. I have not burned water, especially in this way; so I will be discussing my thought process as I go. My very first pyrography piece had dust clouds blowing up around the elephants feet and I did not know how to wood burn this. Now my elephants have no feet. ? So this will be a new wood burning technique for all of us. I do think this still falls under pyrography for beginners, as any of this pieces still have very basic elements. ----??? Last week we revisited an old burning I started in 2017. Today we are going to focus on burning the pine needles which are in the forefront with the bear cub. This was a bear cub from Bearizona back in 2015 (photo by me). I started this piece I think back in 2017 and there are old lives of me working on it. This is Dick Blick Baltic Birch 16x20 and 1/4" thick. I no longer burn on these boards, so it will be interesting to see me switch gears. Hi guys! In this speed video with voice over, I quickly show you how I removed the carbon from the background of the sunflower wood burning. I used several tools to do this (all listed below), though you really only need a couple of small hand tools to achieve the same outcome. I used both hand tools & rotary tools in this video. Creating the dark background video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmbRpWIeKr0 This piece is done on a Michael's basswood oval. The pyrography was done with the Walnut hollow versa-tool & Dremel 2000 Versatip hand torch. I also use 400 grit sandpaper in pieces to get into the smaller areas. Wood burning bison fur can look very overwhelming. There is so much of it and it is curly, straight, matted, and thick. Taking it one step at a time can really help make the process easier. When trying to make fur/hair look realistic you don't want to burn each individual hair, but rather clumps. Taking your time in pyrography really does help you achieve the wood burning results you may be looking for. This pyrography piece is a 12x16 baltic birch and I will be grabbing my optima 1 first to jump back in. I get the question All of the time... What wood burning tips do I need??? I try to answer based on the thought that you only need the pens/tips that will help you create the wood burnings you want. Meaning one pen might do more for you then another.
