Mounting Rescue Oncidium Twinkle on Cork | Decimated by Scale Mount to the Rescue #ninjaorchids

The remnants of my Oncidium Red Fantasy have just leafed out with new growths, and this orchid has been in rescue mode since January 2021. My Oncidium Twinkle was doing really well in leca and self watering, until I had a major scale infestation which then induced rot, and bit by bit the large orchid is now just 2 pieces with a new growth on each of the pieces. In order to save my Oncidium Twinkle, I am opting to mount it in the hopes that it will grow roots and start the road to recovery ?? My phalaenopsis was gifted to me, but it had a terminal spike. A phalaenopsis with a terminal spike usually spells the end of the that orchid's life. 9 months later, the orchid has started growing 2 keikis. One on an older spike and another on the terminal spike. Unfortunately, one of the spikes desiccated, leaving the keiki without any sustenance. However, it has tried to grow some roots. There are 2 nubbins, which maybe will have the will to grow, once the little keiki is placed on damp sphagnum moss. This is not a how to, this is an experiment and I hope that I can repot success in a few months! ?? Stay tuned ?? #orchideen #orquideas #orchidcare #beginners #tips #tipsandtricks

The camera for the #shorts uploads makes this bloom a richer green yellow. In truth, she is a pale beige color with tinges of green, darkening at the centre of the lip! This #orchid has a beautifully citrus fragrance that is fresh and increases in intensity the more exposure to light the orchid gets. A wonderfully shredded lip is the star attraction between the star spaced out petals and sepals. This orchid has been in my collection since 2018, and has bloomed reliably for me once she grew into blooming size. For a species, she is relatively easy to grow! She just needs a lot of light, direct sun preferrably mornings and afternoon. The glaucous effect on her leaves is there to protect from any harsh sun influence and adds to the charm and interest of this orchid, even while she is not in bloom. #orchids #orchideen #orquideas #orchidcare #orchidflower #fragrantorchids #fragance

Always awesome when an orchid blooms for the first time! Tolumnias being no exception ? I was cautiously optimistic when I saw the buds forming that it would not turn out to be another #TolumniaPinkBeige ... of which I had quite a few ? I don't fault nurseries for mislabelling tolumnias, but it is a shame that when you have a large collection of them, that you end up with 4 tolumnias that are all the same. This tolumnia turned out to be Red Sun, even though on camera she looks a little on the fuchsia side. She is redder than what the camera can pick up! Irene Hill, this is your Ninja Clip! THIS!!! Is what I have been waiting for since December 2022! Moving my rupicolous laelia orchid collection back where I can see them from where I am sat in the living room. Also, this signals the beginnings of my spring, here in S'ern Spain. Not that it is guaranteed that we are over the worst of the cold weather, but under the protection of the blooming alley, these rupicolous laelias are ok to be back in the great outdoors, exposed to the elements, because, even if it rains, that is perfectly fine. Rupicolous laelias get spring rain in the natural habitat, before the heat really kicks in and their roots are buried in the coolness of the rocks.
