The search for planets around other stars is heating up. So far, there are over 4,000 confirmed exoplanets. What would the Earth look like in one of these searches?
http://facebook.com/SpaceFan I've been asked by many of you to do a video on the proposed cancellation of JWST. Here it is.

Apparently, the Hangouts on Air Technology messed up during the archiving of the live stream.
The spectacular New Horizons spacecraft flew through the Pluto-system and is on its way to a small Kuiper Belt object called 2014 MU69. It will survey this reddish object to learn more about the outer solar system, but up close.
New Horizons also has been quite busy: continuing to observe Pluto and a cameo observation of the Kuiper Belt object Quasar ("Kwa-war”), roughly half the size of Pluto (690 miles or 1,100 kilometers in diameter).
In addition to the amazing results from the encounter with Pluto and its five moons, data from New Horizons continues to reveal more details about the atmosphere of Pluto, changes on Pluto’s surface and other intriguing information.
Join Tony Darnell and Carol Christian as they discuss with John Spencer, Kelsi Singer and Amanda Zangari from Southwest Research Institute/Boulder, about these latest exciting results and the findings being uncovered in the New Horizons data.

This week, we've recorded two really cool transient events: a supermassive black hole devouring a Sun-like star and at Type 1a supernova in the Pinwheel Galaxy (m101) going on right now.

Over the course of their illustrious work in astronomy, Heather Couper and Nigel Henbest collected hundreds of the most popular astronomy questions that they've been asked. In this book they explain the scientific answers to these questions with expertise and a healthy dose of humor. Below are just a few of the 185 questions they answer:
What would happen to an astronaut exposed to space?
Can people live on Mars?
Can an amateur astronomer make useful discoveries?
Why do we have leap years and leap seconds?
What are the most extreme conditions life can survive?
Is there an edge to the Universe?
What happens inside a black hole?
Is Pluto a planet?
The Universe Explained answers questions about space travel; telescopes; the solar system; comets, asteroids and meteors; stars; black holes; the Milky Way and other galaxies; the big bang and space and time. As well, Couper and Henbest explore the possibility of life beyond our planet with up-to-date space discoveries and debunk persistent myths and legends.

No one is any longer surprised at the number of sophisticated robots in a modern factory, although many people may be surprised at how robots are becoming an attractive option for complex operations in space, including construction, servicing, and rescuing of satellites.
Please join our Hangout, when our regular moderators, Tony Darnell and Harley Thronson will discuss with Hsiao Smith (NASA GSFC) and Al Tadros (SSL) recent advances and the exciting future of space robotics.
