KABACAN, North Cotabato – An unidentified gunman shot dead Wednesday a bus conductor of Rural Tours inside what supposed to be a police well-guarded integrated bus terminal in Barangay Kayaga.
The bus driver was also injured, police investigation showed.
The shooting occurred at about 4 or 5 a.m.
Police Major John Meridel Calinga, Kabacan PNP chief, identified the fatality as Eliezer Inggay, 40, of Kitaotao, Bukidnon and bus driver Crisanto Cuesta, 42, of Don Carlos, Bukidnon.
Inggay died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds while Cuesta was rushed to a hospital nearby.
Both were shot at close range by gunmen inside the bus.
The Kabacan PNP said the Rural Tours Bus had just arrived from Cagayan de Oro City and had a stopover in Kabacan and was to proceed to Tacurong City.
Calinga said initial investigation showed that the bus driver had an altercation with unidentified passenger while in Cagayan de Oro City or Bukidnon.
He said the suspect fled on foot toward a waiting accomplice on board a motorbike and sped away.
“We have persons of interest already, we continue our investigation,” Calinga said in an interview by DXND Radyo Bida Kidapawan.
Responding police found five empty shells for cal. 45 pistol.

A gas pipe caught fire suddenly while he was next to a food store where he arrived to recharge gas, injuring seven people, who were treated by Civil Protection paramedics in Gómez Palacio. He was reported to 911 around 8:45 a.m. This Thursday, through a call indicating that a pipe had exploded. The report mobilized elements of the Fire Department and Civil Protection, who quickly reached the Mexican Army Boulevard, almost on the corner of Lerdo de Tejada Street, in the Carlos Herrera Industrial Park, next to a cheese company. There they found that a pipe loaded with gas had caught fire, leaving seven people injured, five men and two women, all with first and second degree burns on their arms and face, being treated by Civil Protection paramedics, while the Firefighters turned off the fire. According to what was reported by witnesses to the incident, the pipe arrived at the place to supply gas to a food inn that is installed on the sidewalk of the place. While they were filling the tanks, one of the hoses suffered a problem and this caused a flame that quickly spread through the hoses and the truck, which caused the fire that spread quickly due to the nature of the cargo of the pipe. The Firefighters managed to control and put out the fire before it got out of control and the damage was greater, with the Civil Protection elements taking charge of the event.
