The Teck Oil Sands Mine - Will the Public Interest Be Betrayed?
The Canadian federal government is considering the report of a joint Canada-Alberta environmental review panel that assessed the proposed Teck Resources Frontier Oil Sands project. Robert Lyman, former public servant of 27 years and diplomat for 10 years, has written a new report. The Hon. Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, implied in his recent public statements that federal approval might depend on whether the Province of Alberta committed to more aggressive emissions mitigation policies, including tougher targets and dropping the legal opposition to federal carbon dioxide taxes. There have been press leaks suggesting that the federal Cabinet is preparing to deny the Frontier project but “compensate” Alberta in some way. Robert Lyman offers his insights on what constitutes good public policy in the public interest in: https://blog.friendsofscience.org/2020/02/07/the-teck-oil-sands-mine-will-the-public-interest-be-betrayed/ ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wx98j_KmQA
Can temperature records be misleading? Many people think that the commonly cited "global mean temperatures", often used for setting climate policy for things like GHG reductions and carbon taxes, are precise temperature measurements - but this is not true. The "global mean temperature anomaly" is an average of many temperature station data, which is compared to similar averaged data in a set period of time (usually 30 years). The outcome, especially in how temperature graphs are presented, is quite misleading to the public and policymakers. This video is a reading of a publication written by Dr. John Christy and Dr. Richard Lindzen, originally published by the CO2 Coalition. The paper offers important insights on how global warming is presented in a manner that is skewed, showing that there's no climate crisis. On April 9th, 2024, Dr. Benny Peiser will present an enlightening talk on "Europe's Net Zero Rebellion and the implications for Canada" in Calgary, Alberta at the Best Western Village Park Inn, near McMahon Stadium. Please order your tickets by April 3rd to ensure you get a seat!
Dr. Peiser is now touring North America to educate the public about the dire consequences of Net Zero policies. Europe set stringent climate policies decades ago which, by 2013, were causing 'an industrial massacre' as industry and jobs moved offshore. They then adopted Net Zero climate targets and things got much worse!
As the rising cost of Europe’s radical climate policies are hitting households and businesses ever harder, a growing backlash is forcing governments across Europe to water down, delay and roll back their Net Zero plans. In his talk Dr. Peiser will discuss Europe’s accelerating energy-cost-induced economic decline, and the lessons for Canada of the economic consequences of a forced energy transition.
Dr. Benny Peiser is the director of the Global Warming Policy Foundation. The London-based, non-partisan organisation is one of the world’s leading climate and energy policy think tanks. The GWPF regularly publishes reports and papers on the economic, social and societal risks of unilateral climate policies.
This presentation is designed for the general public. No special climate policy or science knowledge required.
Doors open at 6:30pm. Event starts at 7:00pm with opening messages then Dr. Peiser's presentation followed by Q&A wrapping up around 8pm. Feel free to stay and mingle after. This event is open seating - there will be no assigned seating.
There is parking onsite at the Best Western Village Park Inn or you can take the LRT.

In response to the Volkswagen scandal, Alberta Premier Notley said Alberta has bad air. Michelle Stirling, Communications Manager of Friends of Science shows that Canadian cities have some of the cleanest air in the world. Paris has dirty air. Renewable is not doable, so let's stop promoting it. Global warming has stagnated for over 18 years. The Paris conference is December 2015 is primarily about instituting carbon trading schemes.

Many urban citizens wonder what is going on in their city. All kinds of 'climate' or 'green' policies are being implemented without consultation with citizens. In many cities, proclamations of a 'climate emergency' suddenly trump all normal municipal functions, like road maintenance, infrastructure in general, policing, and business development. This video explainer explores the many global bodies that are transnational, unelected and unaccountable, and their influences on local, municipal policies. One would be right to question if many of the climate policies enacted by cities are just a form of union self-dealing. Please subscribe, like and comment on our videos. Ross McKitrick, professor of economics at the University of Guelph and co-author of “Taken by Storm,” invites Canadians to access “YourEnvironment.ca” for air, water and temperature data to see local trends in environmental quality, listed by community. Temperature data goes back about 100 years so you can see if your community is experiencing ‘global warming’ or not. McKitrick notes that in general, air and water quality have improved significantly since the 1970’s – but don’t take his word for it. See for yourself - YourEnvironment.ca
