Let’s get started with Intel! A few weeks ago 2 of their roadmaps leaked and both indicated that their 10nm process would not see the light of day on desktops in 2019 or 2020. In the same roadmap, we saw a tired lineup of 14nm comet late chips planned for 2020.
We now have the official word from Intel and it does confirm most of what was leaked.
10nm will make its first appearance in June this year in the form of “Ice Lake” a mobile Processor family that will be in laptops, tablets and such for the holiday this year. This family will continue until 2020.
As for their 7nm, we got some updates on it. Their first product using this process node will be the Xe graphics for data centers. This will come after Intel's first discrete GPU’s in 2020. From what I understand this means we’ll get a consumer GPU at 10nm in 2020 and possibly a 7nm GPU in 2021! that’s not it , that 7nm GPU will also use Intel's embedded Die interconnect bridge or EMIB and its foveros silicon stacking technique. EMIB will probably be used for some HBM memory as for foveros, I’m not sure how Intel could use it. Unless they’re talking about separating dies like what Zen 2 is doing right now.
CPU wise, they also gave us the roadmap up to Tiger Lake. According to the leak , tiger lake was only supposed to make an appearance in 2021 but intel’s official slides seem to differ. It will be a mobile processor and the first to use the Xe graphics engine. I wonder which will come first, integrated graphics or Xe discrete GPU's!
