There are still plenty of uptempo noise-punk tracks that charge ahead full steam, but they also stretch a couple songs past the five-minute mark with Cassie taking long guitar solos that let you know why she got that Wipers tattoo.

Although the time and place of their formation aligned them with both the Paisley Underground and roots rock movements, the group quickly staked out its own musical territory, divining their own unique brand of dark, surreal, desert rock.
***"Thin White Rope"*** was led by singer/guitarist ***[Guy Kyser](https://cutt.ly/UnHksbT)***, whose harsh, tightly coiled vocals and unsettling lyrics combined to give the band its edge; in the group's first incarnation, Kyser was joined by guitarist ***[Roger Kunkel](https://cutt.ly/ynHkhgk)***, bassist ***Kevin Staydohar*** (soon replaced by ***Steven Tesluk***), and drummer ***Jozef Becker***.

***"Cocteau Twins"*** was a Scottish band active from 1979 to 1997. ***Sonic Youth*** was an American rock band based in *New York City*, formed in 1981.

***Sonic Youth*** emerged from the experimental *no wave* art and music scene in New York before evolving into a more conventional rock band and becoming a prominent member of the American *noise rock* scene.
