0308 t2 . Paul Murphy - 'Moon River & Me' , Take 1 camera 2
Hello. This is one from Ye Olde Days[e]. I played this live a lot, 1993-1999. And I knew all the words back then! Well, I only dug this out yesterday, so it has been 20 years since I last played it. It's pretty much a song of isolation. I wrote this thinking about a man called Kurt Cobain, then others such as Janis Joplin, Brian Jones, then myself, then mixed around that things that were going on in the world at that time - war, bigotry, parental failings, peer-pressure, poverty (and poverty's evil step-parent, greed). A few other things crept in there - false friends being one big one.
I have tried to recreate here how I used to do it on stage - low, high, quiet-dawn, thunder-night. It's a long song, and it was good to keep their attention focused! It doesn't quite succeed, since I am having to read the lyrics and every time I moved, my eyes would de-focus and not come back, but I gave it a good shot.

This is from the safety camera, and cuts out somewhat abruptly. The sound mix is not as good as from the room camera video, but I thought I would upload it in any case, it's not a song I can play again.
This is the last song I ever wrote, an autobiography, that runs from 1961 to sometime to March 2020 (although the song starts in 2023 for the first 2 verses, then goes back to [my] start). For the remaining 3 years, well, there's plenty of songs about that time. I wanted to go out on a positive verse.

A new song, written today. It's a hell of a bad world, from a semi-detached house in the UK, to entire nations.
This is Take 4, the last of the session, recorded as soon as the song was written. All 4 have a slightly different arrangement due to working around the construction - I chose to make it less of a 'standard' song route, in that, normally on the bar run there would be a break-chord at the end of the fourth line, but I left it out, to make the lyric more claustrophobic.
Seperately, the song doesn't end quite how one would expect - the final verse is not quite a full stop, but somewhat of an ellipse. Because there is no resolution. In the 3 hours since I wrote and recorded this, the lyric applies to 10,000 fresh instances, probably in the UK alone.
It's a hell of a bad world.

There's a bit of an intro, the song kicks in at 01:53 . I wrote this song in 1996, a fun song to play live to break up some of my more, 'heavy matter' songs. It's probably more fun to play than listen to, actually, but it seems to have a lot of fans. In fact, I think it gets more fans the more the 'references' get deciphered.
