Did a quick (45 minute) episode today to do a post discussion/debate review of my encounter with William Lane Craig on Justin Brierley's Unbelievable program that we recorded just today (in fact, the DL aired less than 30 minutes after we concluded). I explained why I had not publicly discussed the upcoming encounter, went over some of the key issues to listen for when it airs (I think on Friday), etc. We plan on being back again tomorrow for a regular episode! ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhI_Y7vEaAA
While we were getting folks in line for open phones I commented for about ten minutes on the simple reality that “open borders” equals anarchy and the end of law, a concept that should not be attractive to any Christian whatsoever. Then we went to the phones to discuss a bunch of deep Trinitarian issues, as well as Eastern Orthodoxy, Roman Catholicism, Islam (and Aisha!), Mormonism and textual criticism. Great calls folks! Started off with the MSM’s hyping of the First Apocalypse of James, a well known gnostic work from, at the earliest, the late second century, most probably the third. Had a “Story Time with Uncle Jimmy” where I read the entirety of the work so you can respond to co-workers or others who raise the topic. Then we discussed Bill Mounce’s comments on “whoever” at John 3:16. Followed that with a quick discussion of Francois Veron and the use of skepticism by Rome in the Counter-Reformation. Then I read a Muslim article about today’s Supreme Court case about religious freedom and what the Qur’an honestly teaches about homosexuality (and the foolishness of liberal Muslim groups who have opposed religious liberty). Finally we spent some time reading and responding to Dr. Sonny Hernandez’s response to me on Arminianism and the Gospel, and frankly, I still haven’t a clue exactly where he is coming from. But, we gave it the old college try! Nearly 110 minutes for the program today.

Three main topics today on a 75 minute edition of the Dividing Line: first, asking what Danny Akin, President of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, means by “white nature” and where this concept comes from. Second, we look at the trailer for the 1946 movie that is being fund-raised for right now regarding the alleged “mistake” in translating arsenokoites at 1 Corinthians 6:9 as “homosexual.” Third, we looked at more from Jimmy Akin’s book, The Bible is a Catholic Book regarding authority. Started off with a (to me) really interesting discussion of a recent study in textual criticism that led me, in the minutes just before the program, off into the woods of Mormonism and BYU. At least I thought it was fascinating! But we eventually got out of the woods and did open phones on a wide variety of topics (isn’t that what open phones are all about?). Almost 90 minutes in length today. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/

Talked a bit about the announcement from Master’s that they are going to be putting out (and soon) the Legacy Standard Bible, an update/revision of the (I assume) 1995 NASB. Some thoughts on some of the unique elements of the translation. Then we talked a bit about what the “gift” is in Ephesians 2:8-9, and then took calls on a variety of topics, including presuppositionalism.
