SIMPLE ULTRALIGHT THRU-HIKING GEAR LIST | (FROM 11KG to 4KG!)
In this video we go through our recent and now improved thru-hiking gear list that we have been working on over the last 12 months. We originally started the Appalachian Trail with a 10-13kg base-weight but after our short 8-day journey came to an end, we knew that we were carrying way too much stuff...
We returned home in late March and began culling plenty of gear. We were able to test out some new gear throughout 2020 on some of Victoria's longest and best hiking trails.
After 700km of hiking in all weather conditions, we think we have finally nailed our 3-season ultralight gear-list that we think will see us complete a 3-6 month thru-hike comfortably.
We hope you enjoy this video and please let us know what you think in the comments below!
In our very first episode of our European cycling adventure, we leave the busy metropolis of Athens and head north up the coast. Being our first ever bike trip and the first time we’ve bike packed we were pretty nervous. Not a lot of filming got done, and the filming that did was not that amazing. We promise it does get better the more confident we get on the bike.
We are very sorry in advance for our poor pronunciation of Greek towns, especially Corinth, that we manage to say multiple times wrong.
Stay tuned for our upcoming episodes as we make our way towards the west coast of Ireland.
Total distance cycled so far: 232km
Countries visited: 1

In late October, we decided to complete one of Victoria's best and iconic walks, known as the Great Ocean Walk (GoW). The trail begins in Apollo Bay along The Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia and ends at the popular location of the Twelve Apostles.
This trail had been on our bucket list for a while now and we were extremely excited to be able to attempt this trail just before high season and with mild weather.
This video is the second and final part of our mini-series, where we stay at the campsites at Johanna Beach, Ryan's Den and Devil's Kitchen's before arriving at Gibson's steps and visit the much anticipated Twelve Apostles for the first time in our lives (well, Scott's first time anyway). We saw some of the best ocean views we have ever seen.
We hope you enjoy our video and as always, please don't forget to like & subscribe! Cya in the comments!

We’re Scott & Lauren, a couple from Melbourne in Australia!
Our passion for travelling, backpacking and hiking started back in July of 2017 when we headed off to Europe for a 6-month backpacking trip, which would ultimately change our lives.
After returning in January 2018, the "standard" post-travel emotions hit.
We both decided we would knuckle down and try and save as much money as possible before jetting off again to see more of this beautiful world.
Our first stop was meant to be Atlanta in Georgia, USA, where we were meant to be attempting an Appalachian Trail thru-hike beginning on March 18, 2020!
But COVID-19 put a pause on all adventures that were planned, forcing us to adventure in our backyard of Australia.

We’re currently cycling through Europe and are in country #2 of Albania. They have the most incredible mountains and coastline and we are so excited to be seeing it all by bike! More videos to come!!

Part Two of our thru-hike of The Great South West Walk takes us through some heavy bushland and burnt forest, before heading into the river section along the Lower Glenelg River.
We experience rough weather conditions for three days straight with this particular region of Victoria seeing a month's rainfall in just two days. Lauren also has a tiny mishap along the way, causing shock and tears. Enjoy!

Since we were forced off the Appalachian Trail in March due to COVID-19, we have decided to upgrade a lot of our gear. Our previous tent (Kelty TN2) has been our go-to for the past 4 years when we go camping, but have now realised that it was just too heavy for a thru-hike.
After plenty of research on tents that would be best suited for us on long hikes, we decided on the ZPacks Triplex. In this video we will discuss why we changed tents and what we like and dislike so far about the Ultralight ZPacks tent.
We may also mention what hikes we have planned in the near future too...

In our 2 month camping journey of Victoria, after a long lockdown in the state, we visit Grampians National Park.
The video starts with us completing the Chatauqua Loop which includes Bullaces Glen, Clematis Falls and Chatauqua Peak before heading over to complete the 6km loop of Boronia Peak. We then head back to camp for the night to rest up before beginning the Grampians Peaks Trail the following day.
The Grampians Peaks Trail currently is a 2-night- 38KM track starting and ending in Halls Gap. It is being renovated and built to become a 13 day trek by early 2021. We ended up hiking around 25km on day 1, seeing beautiful sites such as the Pinnacle on the Wonderland loop and Mt Rosea. We spent 1 night out on trail at the newly built Bugiga Campsite. On the second day, we head back into Halls Gap after deciding to skip the the end part of the trek (advice we received from other hikers and the tourists information center).
Once again, we hope you enjoy our video and don't forget to like & subscribe!

PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE CURRENTLY STILL IN OUR 14-DAY SELF QUARANTINE IN AUSTRALIA.
This is day 3 of our thru-hike along the Appalachian Trail.
We start our journey from Hawk Mountain campground (mile 7.1) towards Gooch Mountain shelter (mile 15.7). Along the way, we discover beautiful river crossings, critters, sunshine, fellow hikers and our first open view, which made it a gorgeous 8 mile hike to camp. Everything is going so smoothly and we are completely content. What could possibly go wrong!?

PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE CURRENTLY STILL IN SELF ISOLATION BACK IN AUSTRALIA.
This is day 4 & 5 of our thru-hike along the Appalachian Trail. We start the morning at Gooch Mountain Shelter (mile 15.7). We had a gorgeous morning full of sunshine and experienced our first TRAIL MAGIC. We also get our first full open view of the gorgeous Georgian mountains. Our hike today was filled with day hikers (it’s Saturday), so we didn’t get to do heaps of filming out of Woody Hap because it was extremely busy! We had a very cold night at Lance Creek Campsite (mile 24) but slept quite well.
Day 5 will take us over the highest mountain in Georgia- Blood Mountain. We end the video at Slaughter Creek (mile 28) before the ascent.
