We Found Another Spot Where The Goats Were Escaping...
It seems like owning goats is just a constant process of figuring out where they are getting out NOW and fixing it. And, those little devils can fit through just about anything! Ours were escaping under the stall doors. TIME TO FIX IT!
Common Yarrow, Achillea millefolium, is another plant commonly found growing in grasslands and on roadsides, and it may just help to lower your blood pressure! This plant has also been used as an astringent, and it can be dried and ground into a powder that can stop bleeding!

Have you ever locked your keys in your vehicle? Well, I do it all the time. It didn't use to be such a big deal when we lived in the same city that I work in. My wife kept the spare, and she was usually able to bring it over to me. However, now that we live and my wife works 45 minutes away from my job...
So, when I most recently locked my keys in my truck, I REEAAALLY didn't want to have to call and have her drive nearly an hour just to bring me my keys; but, I REEALLY didn't want to pay a locksmith, either! Thankfully, I was about to encounter A Tiny Parking Lot MIRACLE.

It occurred to me recently that Our Little Homestead Helper has never had the opportunity to pick a fresh strawberry. So, I've been watching our FREE strawberry plants to see if they would make a few more before the end of the season. Surprisingly, they've been doing really well and have begun producing! In this video, I get to spend a little bit of time teaching Our Little Homestead Helper how things work in the garden, and you get to be there when she picks her first ever strawberry!

Our potatoes have sprouted! Could we be on the way to 100 pounds of potatoes?
This is the first update in our little potato box experiment. So far, things seem to be going well. In this video, I pull back the leaf mulch in the potato box to reveal nice little sprouts of potatoes peeking out of the ground!

The next step in preparing our market garden is going to be tilling the soil. Now, I would prefer no-till methods, but given our situation- trying to convert a quarter of an acre of pasture to garden- I think we're going to have to start off tilling it up using our Kioti DK4710 and our Titan tiller. The problem is going to be all of the grass left after mowing. But, I don't have any way of removing it other than hand raking, and that AIN'T happening!

Well, it looks like my "100 pounds of potatoes" project has come to an early and abrupt end, and this epic fail is all on me! I made a mistake the last time mounded them up, and all but two of the plants died. My new plan is to let the two remaining plants grow until the end of summer and then check them for growth. Maybe I can at least see some proof of concept.
Oh well. I guess there's always next year...

I love heirloom seeds! Last year, we grew just a few snake gourd and luffa gourd plants. But, since they are HEIRLOOM, we were able to harvest way more seeds from them than we can use!
