Single letter Morse generator using two common CMOS ICs. Useful for foxhunt beacons etc. Change letter by inserting diodes on different pins of 4017 decade counter. Note the clock capacitor should be 2.2n not 1n as shown in the diagram (the sending with 1n would be fast).

What's HF QRP like from a central city park? Is there too much noise or is it still worthwhile? Watch this video to find out.
All stations were worked on 40m except VK6MV (20 m). Operation took place just before sunset. Maximum distance worked was about 2500km (VK6 and ZL). The antenna used was a 40/20m loaded end-fed half wave previously featured here.

The results of an hour of portable operating on 20 metres (14.060 MHz). 5 watts to a vertical dipole was used. Worked were OK1KT, DJ8LN, 9A202A, DF1AE, MI0VKO, G4SSH and DK9EM. DK9EM was running QRP to a vertical.
The location was a south-facing cliff on Port Phillip in the suburb of Beaumaris. The first 20km or more of the path to Europe (long path) would have been over water. Noise was pleasingly low despite suburbia within 200m.

A demonstration of the improvement that a tuned loop can make for AM broadcast and 160 metre amateur reception.
The station on 558 kHz was 7BU, Burnie (Tasmania). The test was done during the day from an RF-noisy ground floor apartment in Melbourne.
This loop is nothing special and there are plenty of plans on the web. Or see the novel crystal set article here: http://home.alphalink.com.au/~parkerp
