Knowledge is a familiarity, awareness, or understanding of someone or something, such as facts, information, descriptions, or skills acquired by perceiving, discovering, or learning through experience or education.
Awareness may refer to knowing a subject theoretically or inaction. It may be implicit or explicit; it may be formal or systemic more or less. The study of knowledge is called epistemology in philosophy; the philosopher Plato famously defined knowledge as "justified true belief," although some analytical philosophers now consider this definition to be problematic due to the Gettier problems, while others defend the platonic definition. There are however a number of definitions of knowledge and theories to explain it.
The acquisition of knowledge involves complex cognitive processes: perception, communication, and reasoning; while knowledge is also said to be related to the recognition capacity in humans.
Knowledgetheories
The definition of knowledge is a matter of ongoing debate in the field of epistemology among philosophers. The classical description, defined but not ultimately endorsed by Plato, specifies that for knowledge to be considered a statement must meet three criteria: It must be justified and true and it must be believed. Some argue that those conditions are not enough, as examples of Gettier 's case allegedly indicate. There are a number of proposed alternatives, including the arguments of Robert Nozick for a requirement that knowledge 'tracks the truth' and the additional requirement of Simon Blackburn that we do not want to say that those who meet any of these conditions 'by a defect, flaw, or failure' have knowledge.
