In this video Derek from Beast Coast Fishing and myself head out to catch some smallmouth bass. We wanted to see what kind of bite we could get using the Beast Coast Open Water Sniper Jig. This jig is one of my favorites. We designed this bait to be used for all species of bass. In this episode Smallmouth were the target and they were located in mostly in 4 to 9 feet of water. These sniper jigs are a great way to catch bass both deep and shallow. They come in a variety of sizes. Because we were shallow we mainly used the 1/4 ounce football jig and put some finesse plastics as trailers. I would recommend using a trailer for your jig that you have confidence in. Some of the trailers I like are the Keitech 2.8 swimbait, Strike King Ned Bug, A twin trail grub or a beaver style trailer. I use both spinning rods and baitcasters for my jigs and will use straight fluorocarbon line or a braid to fluoro leader. We had a very good day using these football jigs for numbers and size. I had an epic day of bass fishing today on the Chesapeake Bay Make sure to hit the SHOW MORE to read more descriptions of this video! In this video, Eric and myself head out to do some bass fishing on the Chesapeake Bay. With the warmer spring temperatures we were looking forward to what the day might bring. Previous years have shown that when the water reaches the mid 50’s for the first time in the spring that the large females start to stage and can be caught with a variety of lures. This is my favorite time of the year to fish the Chesapeake Bay for bass….pre-spawn means big fat females are hungry and weigh a bit more then they would most of the year. It is a great time to catch your personal best! We started out in a few boat marinas and caught a few good fish moving shallow. We used drop shots and texas rigged worms for the most part. I also used a football jig with a trailer and swam it real slow along the bottom. Trying to imitate a crayfish moving slowly. We also caught a few on crankbaits, boat dock, rock and wood was the best areas to fish….we hit small little areas and kept moving. Pretty much anywhere you found wood or rock there would be fish on it. This pattern will be over within the next week or two and soon the fish will be in full blown spawn mode. Wish we had a longer pre-spawn stage but some years the water warms up real fast into the low 60’s and those fish start to think about the spawn. We had 2 six pounders today and 3 that went five pounds, with a lot of 3 and 4 pounders mixed in. A lot of the video was not shown simply because we have some up coming tournaments and even though all the local guys know these areas we want to protect the “juice” The video that you do see is real community hole stuff that the fish were staging on. It is not that hard to catch fish these time of year on these places but it does take a bit of a game plan how to effectively hit all these areas in a given day and cover water. These tactics for pre-spawn Largemouth Bass work all over the country and remind me a lot of lakes back in the Midwest this time of year. I also catch my first SNAKEHEAD in this video! We caught a bunch of great smallmouth bass and they were sucking down the bait! I was using a Lucky Craft Pointer and Eric was using the Mega Bass.
