My passport was due to expire next February so I organised to have mine renewed through the Australian Embassy here in Thailand. These links are valid as of the 30th of July 2020. Depending on when you read this description will have an impact on the validity of the links as the internet is constantly changing. Step 1. Create an account on the Australian Passport Office and fill out the form https://online.passports.gov.au/Infiniti/Produce/Account/Login Step 2. Have a professional photographer take your passport photo https://www.passports.gov.au/getting-passport-how-it-works/photo-guidelines Step 3. Create an appointment to present the printed form along with 3 passport photos at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok and go pay the fee. https://thailand.embassy.gov.au/bkok/Australian_Passports_Page.html Once the renewal process has been completed, you will need to go back to the embassy to pick up your new Passport and have the old Passport cancelled. You can choose to have the new passport delivered by registered mail but there is a technical caveat that might concern you in that they will need to cancel your passport when you present your documents. This means that you will be in a foreign country without a valid passport for approximately 3 weeks. It is your choice about that risk assessment but they did say that there is usually no problem. Although we planned to meet up with Niall today for a Mexican nosh out, we got news earlier today that Bangkok has been moved to an orange zone so the bars can now open again. Niall has just finished his 15-day quarantine and he was again a free man to roam the streets of Bangkok last Sunday. On my way down, I did stop in at Suzy's place to see how she was fairing given that she reclassified her bar to a bistro so she could stay open for the lockdown but that meant she wasn't allowed to sell alcohol on the premises. That rule was also lifted today so I did partake in a libation before heading down to the Margareta Storm for food. We finished up dinner and decided to go back to The Down Under Bar to have a few more drinks with Suzy. All up, it was a fun night out and great to catch up with my friends who live in and around Bangkok. Ok, we're off to pick up Chnaya's Honda CB650F and ride it home. It took 3 days to transfer from Australia to Thailand and another 4 days to transfer inter-bank in Thailand, but we finally got the money through. It would have taken another 3 days to transfer to the dealer but Chanya said it was easier to simply draw the money out and pay cash. Of course, I could have done that initially, but the would have meant running into Bangkok and carrying a large wad of cash around but that's how this cash society works over here.
