The A & B side of Flipper's classic 1980 indie rock 7" single debut released by Steve Tupper on Subterranean/Thermidor Records as performed live 10/10/2015 at The Bottom Of The Hill in San Francisco.
Both songs are masterfully jaded methed up narcoleptic noise rock takes on the American Dream gone awry, setting the tone for the emerging ennui amidst a painful wasteland of suburban consumer conformity and corporate malfeasance that would be known as the 1980's.
Flipper 2015 features:
Bruno DeSmartass on bass
Steve dePace on drums
Ted Falconi on guitar
David Yow on vox

original lyrics by Bruce Lose Caldwell & Will Shatter
Isn´t life a blast
It´s just like living in the past
We go downtown to do our shopping
And we live in suburbia
And I say
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho
He he he he he he he he
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
What is there to do she said
He said come on baby
And i´ll show you a good time
So they went on down
To one of those cheap motels
And they got all gushy and wet
And I say
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
We set sailing
Floating down the love canal
We set sailing
Drifting down the love canal
We seem strange
Our bodies are breaking down
We are breeding
Our children look like monsters
We are breeding
Not to children but to monsters
We feel pain
Poison is killing our every cells
We are bitter
Poison is killing our very cells
We are dying
Our common grave is the love canal
We are dying

Phil Alvin's perfect pipes work overtime as usual, as Keith Wyatt stretches out on guitar, drummer Bill Bateman keeps it all in time, while thunder rolling bassist John Bazz loses a string during this epic encore performance of One Bad Stud , originally written by Jerry Leiber, and Mike Stoller and first released by The Honey Bears in 1954.
Final song from The Blasters performance 3/28/2017 at Novato's HopMonk Tavern in Marin County California. Thanks to the road crew for making this gig possible for me and my posse!

In 1993, when the UNC Tar Heels won their first NCAA Final Four championship since 1982, exuberant fans took to Franklin & Columbia Streets in downtown Chapel Hill on April 5th 1993 and got rowdy. Bar patrons spilled onto the blocked off city streets after the victory against Michigan. Bonfires were set, drunken revelers climbed street poles and police worked overtime to control the overflowing mob. Fans actually painted sections of the main college town drag Carolina blue. According to this WTVD news report, city crews had premptivily removed many street signs which were expected to be taken as souvenirs.
It was during the era of Coach Dean Smith, whose teams were a dominant force of campus social life, and whose revered athletes were allowed to pass classes they never took, and exams they never studied for. During the Dean Smith years, 1961 to 1997, an investigative report found 54 basketball players enrolled in "paper classes". While academic improprieties occurred at UNC during the 1990's, the NCAA never formally investigated or addressed the aberrant and unethical academic activities until the 2000's, finally issuing 5 serious charges in June of 2015.
Ironically, the Michigan team the Tarheels beat in 1993 was investigated and sanctioned by the NCAA ten years later for program violations including cash payments made to players, and had their entire 1992-93 schedule vacated.

55 Years ago today Alcatraz prison guards discovered dummies in cell beds and learned that three inmates had escaped. The realistic-looking dummy heads they’d made out of papier-mâché and human hair from the prison barber shop. The three inmates — two brothers John and Clarence Anglin and fellow inmate Frank Morris ( whose superior IQ lead authorities to believe it was his idea) — used a makeshift raft they constructed of stolen raincoats and slipped into the chilly waters of foggy San Francisco Bay. They'd carefully dug into the crumbling 100 yr old prison's aging concrete walls using homemade tools fashioned of toothbushes and spoons. Eventually when it was wide enough, shimmied through a hole they’d chiseled into the walls of Alcatraz prison and climbed up through the ventilation ducts on to the roof. Prison officials like to say the men drowned or were eaten by sharks, but many believe they survived. Ironically, Anglins’ other brother, Alfred, was electrocuted during his own escape attempt from an Alabama prison. His DNA was used to compare to a set of bones discovered in San Francisco Bay that was believed to be one of the inmates who escaped. The test came up negative, which leads some to conclude the brothers not only made it out of the water, but may have survived for decades, possibly in Brazil.
