How to transform your team into a dynasty
Athletic Performance Factors
Psychological research has identified the eight behavioral factors that best predict athletic performance. If you want athletes who can take the entire program to the next level-dynasty level- focus on evaluating each of the eight athletic performance factors.
1. CONFIDENCE – High self- concept and self-esteem. Assurance of one’s own abilities.
2. COACHABILITY – Understanding and responding to instruction. Attentive and willing to follow directions.
3. SELF-MOTIVATED – An intrinsic desire to prepare and compete at a high level.
4. COMPETITIVENESS – An inclination to compete, a sense of rivalry and aggression and a strong need for victory at all cost.
5. WORK ETHIC/ PERSISTANCE – An understanding of the importance of practice and dedication. An ability to continue to prepare and perform hard through all situations.
6. TEAM PLAYER – An obligation to the team as a whole. An understanding of the necessity of team cohesiveness.
7. CONCENTRATION – Ability to focus. Ability to learn and retain material – cognitive skills.
8. MENTAL STABILITY – Emotional balance. Ability to avoid drugs, alcohol and mental health problems.
Be a good communicator with your teammates, coaches and support staff.
Get coached by anyone. Get feedback from your peers. Your training partners can be your best coaches, but you have to ask for the feedback. This requires humility but if you have a ‘WHY” you will seek the feedback.
Look for opportunities to be a leader. Teammates need to lift one another up, and encourage your teammates. Are you competing with joy and loving your teammates along the way and lifting everyone up.
