VIDEO PRESENTATION :

For this new video, we’re going to North West of Canada, and in Yukon in particular (Whitehorse located), to discover a brewery & distillery, Two Brewers aka Yukon Brewing, a company founded in 1997 by Bob Baxter and Alan Hansen, initially as a brewing company, but extended in 2009 to distilling as well, and now propose 3 core range small batch releases (even if they’re all limited in quantity & bearing different numbers), the « Classic », the « Peated » (30) & the « Innovative » (32) & special finishes. In France we can get for now only the 3 first mentioned. I tried those three last year, so, after my review of the « Classic » No 31, I will also give you my quick thoughts about the two others & end with a comparison with the only other Canadian single-malt I know, Shelter Point…Thanks again to Andy’s samples (Foodquig) for Shelter Point & to Dave Gardner from Two Brewers & also to Andrew Ferguson from Kensington Wine Market (link to his live show about Two Brewers below). As a Youtube channel under 1000 subscribers, my channel cannot use the « Community Posts » that other channels do to let you know that I can’t release tasting videos at the moment, ask you a question or organise a poll, this kind of things, and also my channel can’t be monetized to help me get samples & bottles or further video equipement, for instance. So I had to do this video to give you an insight of my current situation & give you an update about what to expect soon on my channel. I’ve been sick these last weeks but as I am feeling a bit better & now under an apparently efficient treatment, I wanna reassure you & tell you I think I’ll be able to resume slowly but surely some samples tastings to start with to complete my almost ready WHISKY OF THE YEAR 2020 Video I had to postpone unfortunately. I will have to taste 5 samples in order to see if they fit in that TOP 10 whiskies lists (plus some Honorable Mentions), and then, I’ll be releasing it (most probably next week end). I can’t wait to talk to you about my favorite whiskies among those released in 2020. BAD NEWS : My connection problem is becoming a complicated one, and it needs some coordinated work with different services & my owner, etc...so alas I can’t guarantee you that my connection problems will be solved quickly. So my in depth whisky reviews (I mean often long videos) & Live shows on my channel, but also those on other ones as a guest (a lot of them were planned) have all to be postponed, so apologies about that & I hope it’ll get to normal soon. In the meantime, I will post shorter videos with my phone (including short reviews) as much as I can, when I can have internet, because even to post this video, it lasted several hours, mind you. GOOD NEWS (Spoiler): While I was waiting for this problem to be solved, teleworking as much as I could through wifi though my connection with it isn’t the best, I got again in touch with a French craft distillery with which we had several projects going back to 2019, and to put a long story short, I was invited to join them to conceive & create a whisky & so did I last week. Beyond my modest previous experience you can see mentioned in my « References/Whisky Resume » bilingual pages, it was the first time my work or say skills (as a consultant-blender) was taken into account to create something special, a limited edition/very small batch whisky with an original recipe, and we did it ! In several weeks (sorry, can’t give you any release date right now), it should be released in France, with a limited distribution, but it might be followed by other releases (besides, other projects are on discussion, with this distillery, but I’m opened to other proposals as well). I’ll be talking about it soon on the channel & social media, with the bottle on my table...Exciting times for me...! Today’s video is about 2 whiskies with the same age & same finishing wine, but a different brand name from the same distillery, the SPRINGBANK distillery, from the official Campbeltown region of Scotland founded in 1828. I will try the 2,5 half distilled SPRINGBANK 9 yo « GAJA BAROLO » (distilled in 12/2004, bottled in 10/2013, outturn of 11000 bottles), in the limited « Wood Expressions » range, a single malt Scotch whisky having been matured first for 4 years in Refill Bourbon barrels & then 5 years in Fresh Gaja Barolo casks (an Italian red wine), non chill-filtered & non coloured & bottled at an abv of 54,7 %. Then I will compare it to another release using the same wine type (but probably not from the same vineyard, as the second one doesn’t state the name « Gaja »), the triple-distilled HAZELBURN 9 yo « BAROLO CASK MATURED » (distilled in 06/2007, bottled in 10/2016, outturn of 10800 bottles), in a limited edition, a single malt Scotch whisky having been matured first for 6 years in First Fill Bourbon barrels & then 3 years in Refill Barolo wine Hogsheads, non chill-filtered & non coloured & bottled at an abv of 57,9 %. INTRODUCTION : Today I’m continuing the series about my recent « Highlights of the Year 2023 » winners, but this time with a single-malt whisky from Scotland, Glengyle distillery’s KILKERRAN 16 y.o., bottled 01/05/2023 (batch 23/90), matured in 60 % Sherry casks, 35 % Bourbon casks, 5 % Rum casks), as usual non-chill filtered & non coloured, reduced to 46 % abv. I will also do a quick comparison between this 16 yo & 2 whiskies I’ve already already reviewed, the KILKERRAN 12 y.o. bottled in 2016 (70 % Bourbon casks, 30 % Sherry casks), 46 % & the SPRINGBANK 10 yo bottled 05/11/2020 (batch 20/151), Bourbon casks & Sherry casks, 46 %.
