Does DREAM STALKER Rip-Off A Nightmare on Elm Street?
A man is brutally killed in a firey accident. He haunts the dreams of our lead girl and his face is burned and scared from his death. In these dreams, he kills her friends and when she wakes up, they are dead in real life. This burned dream demon says silly one-liners.
From the burned killer to the nightmares that impact real life, yeah, it’s safe to say that Dream Stalker is a Nightmare on Elm Street rip-off. In the early 90s Freddy Krueger was still a pop culture icon, even if box office sales didn’t reflect that. Krueger mania was still alive and well even if they were trying to kill him off in the films. In 1991, new line cinema killed off Krueger for good in one of the most anticlimatic series finally. But it was from his death, that a new dream demon was born. Coming out the same year as Freddy’s dead the final nightmare, Dream Stalker stole the formula and tried to run with it. Being a cheap shot on video, straight-to-video feature, it never had a chance to reach the same large audience as the elm street films. If New Line Cinema was not going to continue making money off this idea, why not capitalize and make it the way you want to make it?

Initially shott in 1995, it wasn’t until 2005 when it finally finished filming and it wasn’t until 2014 when it finally saw a theatrical release in Japan. Now I’m no stranger to Evil Dead rip-offs and when visually comparing Bloody Muscle Builder in Hell to the Evil Dead series, there’s no denying director Shinichi Fukazawa was heavily influenced by the evil dead, but that isn’t inherently a bad thing. If you go in with the right expectations, it can lead to a really fun time. But is Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell worth your time?

If you like slasher films but don’t know about Giallo films, then you are missing out. Starting in the 1960s, Gialli started taking over Italian horror cinema. They share many of the same elements of Slashers, like the hyper-violence, gore, babes, and a killer, but they came out decades before we ever got Jason and Freddy. In Gialli, the identity of the killer tends to be a mystery until the very end. Gialli tend to be a bit more erotic, artful, and mysterious. And to think Giallo came from yellow books.

Nightmare is also known as Nightmares in A Damaged Brain and it is a real doozy of a slasher film released in 1981. It's an infamous Video Nasty. The UK censor board asked the producer to trim one full second of violent acts, but the producer refused. The producer then spent 18 months in jail for not changing the film.
It's a mix of Maniac (1980), Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986), and a typical early 80s slasher. It has gore effects by Tom Savini and the whole vibe is very unnerving. There is a ton of blood and sex in this film so please be aware.

Mansion of the Doomed is a rip-off of the 1960 french horror classic, Eyes Without A Face from the man that brought you Puppet Master, Evil Bong, and many other classics.
Charles Band was the Roger Corman of the home video era. Like Corman, Band mass produced grand, inventive films deemed too “out there” for major studios and he made them on a shoestring budget. And he turned these things out left and right. He has produced over 350 movies at the time of making this video which pales in comparison to Corman’s over 500 produced films. Still, 350 films are nothing to sneeze at. Band has made some amazing cult hits over the years through his Empire pictures, Moon Beam Entertainment, and Full Moon labels. But before there was the Evil Bong, Gingerdead man, Killjoy, Demonic Toys, Supspeices, Prehysteria!, Puppet master, and even before Ghoulies, from beyond and Re-animator, there was 1975’s Mansion of the Doomed.
Mansion of the Doomed is the first film Band took full credit for as a producer. And while a lot of his films are horror comedies, this first film is supposed to be all horror. So, Is Mansion of the Doomed as chilling and as disturbing as people say it is?

Inseminoid. Just saying that name makes me feel dirty. I am not a fan of films with forced sexual acts and with this film being about aliens impregnating a human girl, I have huge reservations going into it. Inseminoid from 1981 was directed by the late Norman J. Warren who has many of his films available to purchase at Vinegar Syndrome. Inseminoid specifically is sold by Scream Factory.
