it begins to show, the skull beneath the grin, the prophesy of apocalypse wrapped in apparent jest. The machine parts gather under their own power and completed, it rises and starts its march towards us. Some, having been hollowed out by the cold, soul-less enveloping presence of the machine find themselves sucked into the lumbering, hungry mechanical colossus and become parts of it. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQa4JkrUsvk

"I'm having trouble making sense of this - I mean literally just parsing it. When the beat is in, I hear scattered mumblings in the background, and when it drops out, I don't have a clear sense of the vocal meter and can't really understand the words. Whatever its artistic merits, I'm afraid this is a bit too challenging for myself and my listeners..." - Vocal Synthwave Retrowave

"The sound is very unique and dark, I can definitely see people enjoying this..." - Irles Music

1957- Seascale, the North of England. Cirxus is an old English circus lost in the shadows of the smoke stacks of Calder Hall, the world's first commercial nuclear power station. FoolishPeople will use mythology, shamanism, music and dance to bring the darkness of an atomic circus to life. The performance will allow audience members to step into the world of an old English circus lost in the 1950s, explore its sideshows and meet extraordinary characters from the past and future.
Athalia the ballerina waits in the ring for Loudon the Clown to return with directions to the Black Pool, the mythic site of the Home Sweet Home, the final show of the season. Join her as she begins a bizarre and wondrous search for Loudon through the irradiated secrets of Cirxus, where she must face the macabre atomic menagerie, haunted by circus animals and navigate her way through the maze of strange, hallucinogenic sideshows on the other side of time. Immerse yourself in the world of Cirxus, where theatric arcana and Atomic fallout irradiate the sawdust arenas of our inner worlds.

This is a promenade performance in Arcola's new industrial space, Studio K. Cirxus is based on fact: the German Bremen University confirmed that radioactive contamination by Americium-241 found in some soil samples taken by Greenpeace 11.5 km south of Sellafield, were 400 times higher than those taken 11 km from Chernobyl. 51 years on, the villagers of Seascale still live with the ramifications of the accident at Pile 1 of the Windscale Works Atomic Energy Factory.
Cirxus will be FoolishPeople's first London performance run since the critically acclaimed Dead Language at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in 2007.

SHIBBOLETH - shib·bo·leth - noun \ˈshi-bə-ləth also -ˌleth\
1: a word or saying used by adherents of a party, sect, or belief and usually regarded by others as empty of real meaning 2: a use of language regarded as distinctive of a particular group
Our distinctions die out with us.
The return of the great beast Choronzon is here. Lest you know the proper evocation you will certainly never make it to the Ziggurat Of Dead Shibboleths. 40,000 Ephraimites have preceded you. 40,000 Ephraimites have died. Participate in the Mass Ov Choronzon, cast your ego into the infinitude to request Inferni… you most certainly deserve it!
The current we leave behind is felt more keenly as the light dims.

“Extreme assaults ov sharp rhythms, dark beats and atmospheres ov aggression. This releases iz a haunting extreme assault musickally fired by CHORONZON!! Who else can create such an original style ov entertainment!!!” – John Zewizz
New material from Choronzon is always exciting, and this particular album has been long anticipated. We've done reviews of Choronzon here earlier and my enthusiasm for the project has certainly not diminished since then.
If you're familiar with the band's style this album won't come as a surprise to you. It's dark, eclectic and edgy, with a basis in metal and progressive music. The album manages to contain both the hallucinatory and lengthy the Dead, and tracks based in more traditional metal in way that never seems forced. From the get go it's a bit heavier than I'd expect, and the album starts off forcefully and goes right for the kill. I like that.
As with all of Choronzon's work this is full of references, and occult references in particular. A ziggurat is ritual structure similar to a pyramid (or even more like a kofun), but found in Mesopotamia, while Shibboleth refers to a biblical story. The exact meaning of the album title eludes me at the moment, but the juxtaposition of the two terms certainly triggers my curiosity. Perhaps the album is a sort of altar on which no longer valid practices of differentiation are sacrificed. Hell if I know. I

Egregore (also egregor) is an occult concept representing a "thoughtform" or "collective group mind", an autonomous psychic entity made up of, and influencing, the thoughts of a group of people. The symbiotic relationship between an egregore and its group has been compared to the more recent, non-occult concepts of the corporation (as a legal entity) and the meme.
Eliphas Lévi, in Le Grand Arcane ("The Great Mystery", 1868) identifies "egregors" with the tradition concerning the "Watchers", the fathers of the nephilim, describing them as "terrible beings" that "crush us without pity because they are unaware of our existence."

It is a consequence of the manifest destiny of instrumental reason whose aim, on the one hand, is to verify and control knowledge by means of a mechanization of mathematics that finds concrete expression in the Universal Turing Machine (UTM), and on the other, to enter into a communion with the substance of affects engendered by the instrumental use of reason. The tragic effect is a dialectic of fusion, of numbers and beings driven by a utopic impulse into an epic dramatology of transubstantiation.
In this echo of tragedy, the subject is mediated by the Universal Turing Machine, which will, in due time, prove to be a gnostic medium that operates on the logic of functional synthesis. It is a machinic alchemy of subjectivation that enfolds both the subject and the object of architecture into the instrumental medium by generating a universal surface upon which a mutant reality can exfoliate into a possible world.

Holding our multitudes within a single skin is work, a continual effort touching frantic sacraments and hiding personae as apostates, the industry-policed permission to be seen. Agitators collectively advance insanity, an erudite wider glittered conspiracy. Dissolution is a sacred thing opening out and filling gutters with material we slough off. Xenolithic transmutation transmission protocol is a masquerade of that spiral source mechanistic destiny which has become so pervasive so as to become invisible.
Egregore Manifest Destiny is a concept that hints at how what is within is like that without, and how the intercha

Bringing together the acoustic guitar driven methodology of 2014's Luminous and his well-received ambient work, with Chapel Built Of Spines P. Emerson Williams uses the sounds of his voice, 12-string guitar and cello and modifies them into near kaleidoscopic diffusion. On the title track, the sedate atmosphere contains and gradually reveals the more ominous energies hidden beneath. Alive (Fear Sleeps) opens the gates and lets the gathering forces out. Then on the concluding track the listener is left unsheltered, open to the Vault Of Stars.
The tracks of Chapel Built Of Spines grew out of the process of creating visual work to illustrate the writing of some of today's most exciting authors of speculative fiction. There have been hints of narrative elements in all Williams' work from the start, and working with authors, publishers and magazines in the realm of horror, science fiction and speculative fiction has served to amplify this.
###
About P. Emerson Williams:
P. Emerson Williams is a multi-media artist delving in music, art, writing, and video. More people listen to the sounds of P. Emerson Williams every day than realize it, for much of it is embedded in extensive transmedia projects past and ongoing. A visionary artist and an illustrator, his work takes projects spanning physical and digital media, genres and modes of performance to strange realms.
"Given P. Emerson Williams extensive track record of cross-medium and genre art over the past thirty years, it is likely he will become an underground legend. This may have occurred already, yet given his reclusiveness, it’s unlikely he would notice." -James Curcio, author of Fallen Nation, Join My Cult and The Immanence of Myth
