We made the decision to "chop and drop" the blue false indigo trees in the swale berms for this season. This will be the first time that we have done this for these trees. I pollarded and coppiced a few last season to see how they would recover and they coppiced readily.
The cool nights actually gave way to some more hot weather after we dropped the foliage but with the sun lower in the sky and longer nights/shorter days it hasn't harmed the trees and now it has gotten much cooler. (oct1)
The woody stems, less than 2" diameter is known as ramial wood. This is the part that is best for mulching, or "chop and drop", a term so misused I do not like to use it anymore. Getting the branches in contact with the ground is of utmost importance. In this climate, the branches will not break down unless they can be kept quite moist and wind will tend to dry them out if there is air flow around them. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4zCbppVXDA
This is the recipe for a ginger based anti viral tea from Stephen Buhner. This is very warming, in a good way!
Ginger has to be fresh, powdered ginger will not behave the same way!
Recipe:
12 ounces of warm water
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 cup ginger juice
1/4 lime
1 tablespoon of local honey
Ginger is a powerful antiviral, among other things. So is honey.

While building the new deck I had some weird angles to cut for some of the joists. This video shows how I used a T bevel to find the angle and then use the complementary angle to cut the joist tail.

In permaculture, the "sink" is where the energy that comes into your property leaves and is no longer available for you to use. In this video the form of the energy is water.
You cannot keep every bit of your fertility on your site, you will always lose a little bit to the sink. But a niche in time is available just uphill of the sink for locating a nutrient trap.
As an example, an element, a reed bed installed just uphill of the sink can take up nutrient that can then be carried by you at the right time back up to the top of the system and re-introduced.
So you are able to preserve a bit of nutrient that might otherwise have gone off of the property and use it to your benefit.

In this video, I fabricate a broadfork for a lot less than it costs to buy a new one! This is a simple build if you can weld.
Why I built a broadfork? Honestly, when I saw what one consisted of and saw that they were in excess of $200 dollars I knew I could build one for a fraction of the cost.
So the most expensive thing about this one is the handles which were $17 each! The steel was less than $10 and of course, it took time, probably less than 2hrs total.
I might make some for sale later at a very reasonable price, leave a comment if you would be interested in one for purchase.
