The European Space Agency Open Day At ESTEC - Part 1
I spent the whole weekend at ESA's ESTEC facility in the Netherlands, one of Europe's primary space technology design and development facilities. While I was there to present and talk to the public I spent a great deal of time running around trying to cover the historic hardware on display and talking with hundreds of space fans who'd travelled from all over the world to be there.
This should be the first of a few installments, featuring the Apollo Astronauts doing VIP things, the Solar Orbiter mission due to launch next year and a piece of test hardware from Europe's 'Space Plane' - the IXV.
Thanks to ESA for helping me come to this amazing event!
Neutron Stars are so small and distant that no conventional telescope could ever resolve their surfaces, but by using precise X-Ray timing and energy information it's possible to build models of the neutron star and figure out what the surface must look like.

After meeting the neighbours I think it's prudent to establish a buffer zone on the border to make sure our worlds don't have to deal with cats marking their territory.

Deep Space Updates is my semi regular news round up covering space, and I guess in this case aerospace. There have been 5 launches in the last 10 days, all from SpaceX. A new crew has launched to the ISS and the previous crew is returning right now.

Well.... I had to go and rescue Jeb, and Bill & Bob volunteered. Apparently they had bet Jeb that he couldn't land and take off from Minmus using only his rocket pack, so he owed them money.

Wings Of Saint Nazaire (which I probably mispronounced) is another entry in the Space sim genre, but one which distinguishes itself by attempting a modernized version of the sprite based graphics from the original Wing Commander games. This is only an alpha Demo with the flight and graphics in place but many other game mechanics missing.

I found this sequence of events to be art in motion. It doesn't need music, narration or an explanation.

If you're interested in playing Eve Online you can sign up for an extended free trial: https://secure.eveonline.com/trial/?invc=5e220162-831d-4e3b-b6cc-09a8bd191d30&action=buddy
Using the right setups you can setup ships that will fly faster than 20km/s in Eve Online, while this is a long way short of the kind of 'ludicrous speed' fits that were nerfed in Quantum Rise expansion, it's still faster than anything else you're going to encounter in the game.

In sci-fi the idea of an asteroid base is a common trope, we see them in The Expanse and in Elite: Dangerous. However, spinning up an asteroid leads to all sorts of problems and challenges, so let's crunch the numbers....
Edit: made a bit of an oopsie with my first slide on radiation pressure, it shouldn't say 'Yarkovsky' effect.

From Tuesday night's livestream, playing through the Gemini/Agena mission from the Making History expansion. It looks like there's a capture issue which made the terrain much darker than it looked in the game. (and if you're an expert on OBS & DirectX graphics rendering with an explanation I'd love to know).
